GAP Check for Trumpet
- Measures the distance from the end of the mouthpiece to the beginning of the mouth pipe (GAP)
- Developed by Ken Titmus
- The GAP measurement allows an estimate of which mouthpiece fits on a trumpet
- Too large of a GAP makes the lower register seem stuffy and the upper register may reach a "wall"
- Too small of a GAP leaves the lower register too open and leads to poor definition of notes above C```
- Missing resistance causes the upper register to become airy or washed out
