Useful, robust, intuitive.

I've had this for a couple of weeks now and I must say that it is very useful indeed. I plugged it in and it installed straight away (I'm using Windows 7), requiring no manual driver download or cd install (sick of trial software!); setup within my DAW was also without issue.
The USB 2.0 capability communicates data without any lag; I've managed to control all three of my synths simultaneously using Reason 7 without any problems. The arrangement of the channels may seem a little bit odd but it means that you can control 3 MIDI instruments and receive data from another without any wires sticking out of the front.
Does exactly what it's built for, and it's so small it fits in with my setup no problem! Love it!

I was confused at first after plugging it in and trying to use it with a few different synths, it just wasn't working right. Then I saw there was a driver on the website (i use windows 7 64bit) and after installing that, smooth sailing. The drivers show up in all my different sequencing software as expected. Since I have read that you can have more than one of these units running at the same time, I plan to buy another since I have more gear to run, and I haven't found a cheaper and better way to get this much dependable midi i/o. A win for ESI. (although I have not tried this with Windows 8 or OSX, and sometimes drivers can be problematic. Thomann has an awesome return policy though so give it a try.) Took one star off handling because the numbering of the midi jacks is a little confusing to me.

Robust and reliable

Does what it's supposed to do. It worked right out of the box (using Win8.1), no manual driver installing, no hiccups whatsoever.
There is no lag, not even with 4 input and 4 outputs all connected and sending/receiving midi.

Only two small cons that I can think of..

- Awkward placements of inputs/outputs - there are 3 inputs and 1 output on the front panel and the rest, 1 input and 3 outputs on the back side. Why!?
-No labels on the top side, which makes it hard to know where to connect the your cable, so you have to look behind and that can be annoying if there other cables already connected. Anyway I had to make my own labels on the top side.

But it works perfectly. 5/5

4 in / 4 out USB midi interface in a nice box and 8 LED channel activity lights. Works smoothly with my Mac.

Such unit is useful in almost any setup with a small number of midi connections.
