Clear snappy snare sound without overtones or sustain, extremely durable.
Jan Benoit 15.04.2022
I like to play my snare with a lot of tension on the batter head. I was looking for a snappy high pitched sound that cuts through the mix, I use this head on a Tama John Blackwell 13" by 6,5" singature snare . This head can be tuned with extreme levels of tension giving a high pitch without any overtones or sustain. I do not use any dampening control for this head, no moongel, sound rings or any other dampening is needed for this head. Although very heavy and durable when tuned high this head is also very sensitive and gives you a great dynamic range, from the lightest of ghost notes to insanely load rim shots. I used this head for 7 months now, played in studio and several concerts with a heavy metal band, play it evey day in practice or rehearsal and it hasn't lost any of its characteristics. I wonder how long it will take for this head to be replaced. It's more expensive than other heads, but it's a lot more durable (would have needed at least 2 powerstrokes by now) and gives some characterisitcs no other head on the market has today. When you look for a clear bright snappy sound without overtones or sustain, this head is for you.

A
Pretty purpose-oriented drumhead but awesome for what it's doing

Bought it because found a lot of info online that it's one of the driest drumheads available for "regular" snares
Wanted to get something with shortest sustain, with least overtones and something that will survive both light "pop" gigs and some blastbeats(I use Lang's sticks that are on beefy side)
Tonewise - they are pretty easy to tune and it takes me less time to change tuning even in comparison to hydraulic head that i used before, found it to sound almost "processed" witch is good for my specific case
Sustainwise - before installation thought that I may need some moongel but after tuning it's really short, no need in moongel to make it shorter, no ring and excessive highs so have no idea if i'll ever need additional dampering.
Durabilitywise - already had both punk and pop gigs, 10 hours of rehearsals, not a single dent in head, i comparison to hydraulic - already better result
Small additional note - kevlar mesh is underneath and hade direct contact with the shell, I have some concerns regarding using it with wood shells, it may damage edges
Would recommend to those who have same requirements as me, but if you want something lively - look somewhere else
