Bought to 'cure' a cheap snare
This is more about the 'features' of this drum head which does actually do exactly what it is supposed to do, but I didn't get on with it in the end, it was an experiment.
Yes, it dampens and deadens a ringing steel snare, but then maybe don't use a steel snare or get a better one with a middle ring or a little more mass to it? Yes it is durable and allows you a better tuning range for a drum which usually would ring when taken to high, but at the loss of other qualities which other heads preserve.
Basically I had to tune up to get the musicality and responsiveness out of it to counteract the dead character it introduces which defeats the point somewhat. A bit of a gimmick/one trick pony maybe for me, others may love it though.

Looks and sounds great.
I have always played with a power centre snare head for the increased attack and availability of different tones but this head actually packs an equally strong attack. It was bought purely for aesthetic reasons and has turned out to actually sound superb and is very very durable too. When playing more aggressively the head does not mark unless you have poor technique or you are hitting it ridiculously hard. I like my snare to be more open (slight ring) and this suits very well indeed. I haven't needed to dampen the head at all. It also brings a degree of warmth to your drum, a well rounded sound that comes from the hydraulic range. I would highly recommend this snare head, I bought it purely because it looked cool, but it has certainly surprised me.

Great head for this application...
Volume is ofetn a problem in smaller venues, and while I recognise this was not the application Evans had in mind when they launched this - but it does in fact work very well here. I have thge head on Gretcsh 14"x5.5" snare and have it slightly de-tunned. I don't use any other dampeneing, and it has a great resonat sound but isn't so agressive that it blots the sound landscape. I've recommended to other drummers, and they've had the same experience.

Effect but too thick
It is very nice color and catchy look, but it is simply too thick.
In low tuning is quite heavy to obtain clean sound since it can't resonate as thinner drumhead. In other tuning seems too dull, without charachter. I would say it was try and error, but it ended as error. It may be good only for heavy hitters because this could laste for some time, but easier playing could not benefit at all.

Evans 14" Hydraulic Blue Snare
This drum head works great on metal snare drums. Especially on aluminum! Ludwig type.
Great sound on a rimshot!
Sounds very interesting for pop, funk, classic rock, disco...
For any dance music.

Having seen players like Sput use this head I thought i'd give it a shot for a phat snare sound. Only tried it on one snare so far, but i'm liking it! I've tried it down low and absoutely cranked on a DW Brass snare. Like the blue colour as well, pretty hip.

For tuning your drum low
Was used on cheap BASIX snare drum to make it sound low and dirty. Worked perfectly. Double ply Hydraulic series saturates the sound of a drum to the low end. In my experience, heavy drum heads can fix the ringing of a cheap instrument or make good instrument sound with really low end.

perfect big sound!!!
Exactly what I was looking for.
Snare sounds really big and clean, with less harmonics and a fat punch.
If you're looking for a 70s sound (like Bonham's loose snare on some tracks), this will do the right job

Evans hydraulic Blue snare skin, 14"
I had this snare skin about 5 years ago. I like to have the skin quite tight on my snare and something about this skin which I still cannot quite put my finger on does not full fill my expectations from an Evans skin of this quality. However when I had this skin with less tension it was perfect. Im not quite sure about this skin but thumbs up for its appearance!!
