Harley Benton LH Banjo - better than expected
Steve59 20.10.2013
Actually quite a well made banjo, looks good & has geared tuning pegs throughout. The supplied strings are cheap so I ditched those immediately, but that's standard for any stringed instrument I buy.

Sound quality is fine for a beginner instrument & the action and bridge suit me perfectly without having to adjust anything.
The banjo is relatively light but does project sound well.
Overall a surprisingly good instrument for the money - especially as I normally have to pay a great deal more for left handed instruments.

A
Great banjo for the price
Anonymous 11.03.2016
I bought this cheap banjo as I just wanted to learn a few country tunes as I usually play guitar, I was very surprised by the quality of this instrument, it is well worth what I paid for it and more, I was skeptical but I was pleasantly surprised as it is the only banjo of its kind for under 500 Euro and as I only wanted a banjo for a bit of fun it was right up my alley, I am no expert in banjos as I mainly play guitar but this instrument suited me down to the ground and the sound is sweet and crisp, and it feels and looks wonderful and brought me hours of enjoyment for such a little price, don't be put off by the price

My only complaint though is I noticed there was a slight crack on the underside of the neck when I pulled it out of the box but nothing serious and it still plays fine, all in all a fantastic product for such little price, well done Harley Benton.

The build quality is good for 130? instrument, didn't notice any deficiencies. However it is a cheap instrument and doesn't sound very good. The playability is ok. For a beginner or someone just wanting to try out banjo this would be a great buy, but more serious players should definitely look at more expensive insruments!

Bought as a second banjo
Anonymous 02.02.2017
Ordered it on Jan 27 - Arrived Feb 2nd in Ireland
I had a basic open back banjo as a learner and then got this one.
Sound is fantastic.
Action is lovely. Very little effort required to hold chords.
Hand slides lovely up and down the fret board.
Absolutely lovely looking with the mahogany finish.
Perfect for a beginner or upgrade from a basic model.
I'm sure this will last me until I get to advanced level.

I love this Banjo
Djddave 22.01.2021
I am totally new to Banjo playing and I wanted an inexpensive instrument to test the waters. I was impressed with the quality for so little money. To me it sounds fine, the action is fine (as fine as I can tell) and even if I can't play too well at the moment, it looks impressive on its stand. My only complaint was that one of the tuners was a little loose and needed tightening but for price and the overall quality, this is just a little niggle and easily fixed. Well done Thomann keep up the good work!

My first banjo
Chubs 22.11.2018
I bought this banjo as it was the cheapest left handed banjo I could find. I?ve spent 20+ yrs playing guitar and bass and spent a lot of time playing ukulele over the last 5yrs too, and wanted to try a banjo without breaking the bank.
I love this banjo. I?m no expert but it sounds fab to me. It is very well constructed for the outlay. The neck is lovely and feels fast to play. It stays in tune well too.
The only bad point is a couple of fret ends feel a little bit rough/sharp.
This will be quickly solved with a fret file though.
If you?re thinking of having a go on the old banjo, do not hesitate to get this one. You will not be disappointed.

I
Great banjo for first-timers
Irzal 05.11.2022
I bought it right after I "discovered" The Dead South while browsing on-line for some new interesting music (I played grunge in high-school, funky, blues, and jazz in college and metal now :)))). The build quality is great for the price (wood and chrome parts, frets, fretboard, Remo skin). The sound is not the best, but if you keep practicing with metal fingerpicks it gets better as you get better. The only minor drawbacks were the tuning pegs and a broken 1st string so I could not enjoy it right out of the box. However, I replaced all the strings with D'Addario banjo strings anyway so it was not that big of a deal. In all, it's a great choice for bluegrass three-finger style first-timers.
