Best RAT pedal
DickPuound 08.09.2021
I was looking for a RAT style pedal with the following characteristics:
- As similar as possible to the original circuit
- Made in EU, Japan or US.
- More towards the vintage RAT sound but if it was modern it had to be unique

Saw a really good Reverb video on RAT style comparisons and my favorite was the Big Ear Woodcutter, that sounded the best and was the kind of sound I was looking for, followed by the Rattler which was a bit more modern. The main difference being the asymmetrical clipping vs the symmetrical of the original.
Unfortunately, the Woodcutter is sold out since month and there was nothing to be found in the used market, so I went for the Rattler.
Overall the pedal sounds great, loads of gain available, good compression and overall that classic RAT sound with a modern twist.
No regrets on getting this one over the Woodcutter, I still suits my needs and sounds so good with excellent workmanship that it's hard to be disappointed.

AC
Quality Vintage RAT Style Distortion
Anthony C. (BE) 24.03.2024
Superior "Rat" type Distortion:

This is the asymmetrical clipping one which is beautifully crafted in Greece.

The sound is what I was looking for as I was not convinced with lot of reissues and more modern Rat/Clone pedal types.

The sound is warm, creamy and asymmetrically grainy in the good sens.
The Rattler + offers You a more symmetrical sound with more gain.
Extremely large specter of gain possibility and can also totally replace a mediocre overdrive channel on some lower budget amps.

On some higher-end amps , mix the Rattler with the Overdrive channel or exacerbate Your output and the sounds can literally become insane.

This was the product I was looking for - Top quality You can go for a Rattler or Rattler+, or any Jam Pedals products with Your eyes closed.

Tasty RATty Distortion
Diatonico 28.08.2021
I wanted a RAT-style distortion. I went with this one.

Pros:
+ Orgasmic tonal flavour — it sounds a little less hairy and a touch more well-rounded than the original. Perfect if you think the RAT is a bit too unrefined/hairy.
+ Gorgeous hand-painted design.
+ Pedalboard-friendly size (as opposed to the original).
+ You get a fabric pouch for the pedal, handy if you don't want to risk scratching the paint job if it's in your drawer.

Cons:
- It's very close to a RAT, but it doesn't go to the same fizzy extreme... If you're looking for that kind of thing.
- No switch for fatrat, turbo mode (like on a black secret) or high gain (like the Limited edition Rattler).
- Boutique price

I love jam pedals stuff. You know youll be getting a great pedal. But like all pedals, they make different guitar amp combinations sound unique to that combo.
You wont be dissappointed

I was looking for an overdrive/distortion pedal for solo tones and wanted to try a Jam Pedals product. So far this is the most expensive overdrive/distortion unit on my board and I have a feeling that it was worth it. And, of course, the packaging and the look of the pedal made an impression, it really felt that this is something special, a feeling you don't get from mass produced gear.
The only thing that's a bit odd are the input and output jack sockets, they are very tight, I's very hard to unplug the jack plugs, it takes a lot of force and makes you think that you might even damage the pedal by forcing the plugs out of the sockets. Maybe they could get less tight after some use, but I'm just keeping the patch cables inside the input/output of the Rattler that's connected to my pedal switcher and I have no reason to touch them. And anyways the Rattler has stayed on my board unmoved since I got it. I play it a lot.

I haven't tried original Proco Rat, modern or vintage, and my other drives are less gainy, so I cannot compare the tone of Rattler with a similar pedal, but I'm happy with the tones I get. It works well with my Marshall tube amp, as well as with Roland Jazz Chorus.

pros:
+ great tone
+ the looks
+ low noise floor for an distortion pedal

cons:
- tight input/output jack sockets
