A vocal mic built for reliable sound
The Lewitt MTP 5 S is a dynamic vocal microphone that combines the ruggedness Lewitt's mics are known for with excellent sound quality and effective resistance to feedback. That last part comes down in large part to its cardioid capsule, which rejects sound arriving from the sides and rear so that the signal coming from on-stage speakers isn't picked up by the mic itself. Combined with its clear top end, this helps vocals cut through without much extra EQ work, even in a loud band mix. On top of that, the robust, all-metal housing offers the kind of durability that will hold up on the road. This version also has an on/off switch built into the mic itself, letting the singer, presenter or host mute it at any time.

Less high-frequency bleed
At the heart of the MTP 5 S sits a capsule that Lewitt has optimised specifically for the job, with a cardioid polar pattern that's most pronounced at higher frequencies – exactly where cymbals, or the attack of a guitar amp, would otherwise bleed into the vocal. Sound from the side can't be blocked out entirely, of course, but the combination of the directional capsule and a 50Hz–17kHz frequency range covers the full range of a singer's voice clearly and with plenty of presence. The sensitivity typical of a dynamic mic does call for a decent amount of gain from the mixing desk or interface, but in return this makes the MTP 5 S less prone to clipping when things get loud on stage. The capsule itself is rubber-mounted to cut down on handling noise. Beneath it sits a switch that lets performers mute the mic if it's plugged in but not being used for a while.

Sound in all its forms
The Lewitt MTP 5 S wasn't designed purely as a vocal mic – it also works well for speech, or for miking up instruments. Thanks to its focused pickup, it's just as much at home on a panel discussion or podcast as it is in front of a guitar or bass amp, where the directional capsule helps cut down on spill from drums or other amps on stage. The handy on/off switch also makes it a safe, reliable talkback mic at front of house. That makes it a good match for live musicians, podcasters, and presenters after something rugged and straightforward for stage and voice work. Anyone after a more studio-accurate, faithful capture, on the other hand, might be better off with one of Lewitt's condenser mics – but as an everyday tool for live and interview situations, the MTP 5 S delivers a consistently clear, dependable signal.

Alongside a washable, easily removable foam windshield, the MTP 5 S also ships with a mic clip and a carry pouch. The clip means the mic can be mounted and angled on a stand, leaving the singer's or presenter's hands free – handy when playing an instrument at the same time, or turning the pages of a prepared speech. The pouch protects the compact mic on the way to a gig or the next recording session, without the kit taking up too much space in the bag. The mic connects via a standard XLR connection; phantom power isn't needed here, since the Lewitt MTP 5 S is a dynamic model.
