Good if you like it dirty
JoshuaTree 03.01.2018
Bought one of these a while back and ended up selling it because I don't use this much distortion.
The built quality is very good and the functionality is simple but is just too "hairy" for me.
Too much gain and I could never get a clear tone out of this.
I like a gain pedal that can play low if I want it to.
If you're into my line of thought this is not the pedal for you.
On the other hand if you are looking for a heavy gain pedal, this might be the one for you.

Great tubescreamer
JohanJK 05.05.2021
I use this pedal primarily as a gain stage for my AMT R2 pedal. It really adds harmonic content without making it sound muddy. Although the difference with my maxon OD808 is small, it is distinct and I use them both in a different way. Whereas the OD808 is perfect to brighten and crack up a slightly overdriven and clean sound, this one is a perfct companion for more saturated sounds.
Build like a tank and looks good.

Nice but a bit dull and noisy
Wilbury 10.05.2017
Basically, it is a good generic-sounding overdrive/distortion pedal. But I found the sound to be a bit dull, lacking lows and highs. Also, it seemed a little noisy, but comparable to a similar pedal by Boss.

So, if you have a packed pedalboard, this effect could add some new colour to your palette. But if you want just one distortion/overdrive pedal, maybe look for a more versatile and rich-sounding option.

Not the tones you want.
DamasDim 22.12.2022
This pedal might lure people who want something like a TS but with maybe more gain on tap. As an MXR pedal it is very robust and good quality.

The sound however I found to be unusable in mostly every setup I tried.
The pedal introduces a muddy and fat overdriven sound, that is neither nicely compressed and saturated, nor rich harmonically.
Even at minimum gain settings it colours the sound 100% with kind of an unpleasant hard clipping distortion. Maybe someone could use this sound as a main rhythm sound for 80s-90s rock/metal.
Also it could be used to push your dirty amp to saturation.
It is possible that with expensive valve amps this pedal could result in something better.

Good pedal.
Anonymous 01.01.2016
This my main drive pedal that I use. I like that it has diversity so you can go from just clean to dirty and it acts according to how you pull the string, It's good to have this tone knob because if you have darker sounding guitar, then you can add some sparkle with that knob and if you have bright sounding guitar you can lower the brightness in this pedal, so it wouldn't be too chimey (harsh or piercing).

I use this Pedal as a Treble Booster...
Snicki 25.04.2014
...and it sounds good. If U fade in the Gain it becomes some Noise, but not more like a ovrgained Amp. It`s not a Distortion Pedal, ít`s a Overdrive Tubescreamer!
