Flatwound guitar strings

These are good strings, and if you are after flatwound jazzy strings, are a good alternative to Thomastik Infeld. A very personal choice though, but worth a try to see for yourself.

GM
Flatwounds with a great twang !!!
Gary M. 03.03.2014
I have tried many different makes of flatwound strings over the years - D'Addario, Thomastik, Rotosound, etc., but without doubt these are my favourite strings. On a Gretsch 6120, these strings have a real twang to them!! Highly recommended.

These are not my first flatwound strings. I ve got hollowbody with flatwounds and it sounds great.
As soon soon as I putted these strings on my wintage japanese Tokai it sounded like dead. No resonance na harmonics very low output wtf? Not low output but terribly low output.

Flatwound strings

These strings are flatwound as opposed to your typical guitar strings This means their surface is flat all round!). This is helpful in avoiding scratching noises caused by fingers sliding along the strings... certainly more useful for recording in certain instances. However, the sound didn't quite do it for me as its also more muted when compared to usual strings... this is especially due to the affect the flat surface has on the attack of the pick on the string. In my opinion you loose punch and a bit of clarity. Therefore while these strings are still great they will not be suited for every style of music or for every situation. I would recommend these for more Jazzy or laid back styles and for sliding, etc. Definitely not for heavy riffing however!
