Great video mic
Andrew NeroH 04.11.2017
Very easy to use. Just pop an AA battery inside, and it'll last weeks without needing a change.
I found this mic to be a little too sensitive when recording outside and you wish to avoid parasite sounds. I didn't find it as directional as I wanted it to be, but it didn't stop me from getting the results I wanted from it.
It sounds clean as hell for inside scenes and it captures transients perfectly. I'd buy it all over again and would recommend it if you need to work on a film project.
Again, a great product from Rode.

Amazing microphone
G-Evans 28.04.2018
Even though its not the top of the line model rode do in terms of shotgun microphones, i was amazed how good this micophone is.

Paired with the zoom h6, and a rode boom pole this is great for audio recording. It can pick up even the faintest whipser from where you are aiming while not picking up much sound from elsewhere. I can barely hear any noise floor with the microphone, and the range you can get out of it is amazing. You just have to be careful to not forget you've set it for picking up very quiet sounds and nearly deafen yourself when you make a noise.

Foam cover doesn an okay job at cancelling wind noise but deadcat addition is useful for if you need to use the mic where you have harsh outdoor conditions.

Very good
jodolittle 15.12.2020
I've got a number of Rode mics as well as a number of others from other manufacturers (Shure, Sennheiser, Marantz and others). In general, the Rodes are a great mic, although some of the technical refinements built into the sennheiser are not as well developed in the Rodes. But then, I payed 5x time price for the Sennheiser, which I dont regret. Where the Sennheiser 8070 stands out is its telescope like pick-up and isolation of sound at very long distances coupled with high tolerance to all sorts of climatic conditions - eg storms. In any but those extreme conditions, the Rodes would be my go-to choice. In other words, the price-performance balance of the Rode is extremely attractive.

Excellent Shotgun mic for the price
Jay237921 14.06.2018
I purchased the Rode NTG 2 from Thomann a while ago. I have been using this microphone for my location recordings, dialogue, and foley as well as sound effects recordings. The built quality of this microphone is really robust and solid which makes it durable. I can say it's a great mic at a good price, the phantom?powered NTG2 is moisture resistant, robust and known for balanced sound and good value. There is a hi-pass filter switch which you might find useful if you are recording on location and want to filter out unwanted frequencies.
In a nutshell, this is a great microphone wich decent performance for the price. I recommend buying this microphone.

Great for overheads for video production
Anonymous 07.03.2017
I bought this for video production. You cannot really compare the inbuilt microphones of video cameras to microphones of this quality.

It comes with a nice windshield, which even in doors I think I will keep on as it keeps the dust off and doesn't really affect the sensitivity that much.

I can quite happily pick up speech audio at 1 to 2 metres in a non-reflective environment without too much noise and maintaining a good clarity in the sound.

It is built like a tank with an all metal construction, but is very light weight. I purchased a 3rd party holder for the video camera as the Rode video adapter holder is well overpriced.

I have not yet tried this microphone out on some acoustic instruments so I cannot say if covers this adequately. But for what I want i.e, spoken voice it covers my need 100%. I managed to grab this when it was on offer so I am even more happy with the purchase.

Highly recommended

Cautious recommendation
Anonymous 04.04.2016
The sounds quality is pretty good. Not pro level, but good prosumer level sound. Check online for guides on sound quality and sound samples, see what you think yourself.

Over time the wobbles of regular use cause the screws to come undone and I've not lost two of the three out on the road. I need to find replacement screw before the whole unit comes apart. I would recommend it, but include the warning about the screws coming loose.

Great mic with a variety of uses.
MarkJ 02.12.2013
I bought this mic to use for video recording, and it does this very well by rejecting sound other than what it is pointed at. I use it connected to a SLR camera for video.
I have also tried it recording acoustic guitar, and have found it gives a great sound for this. It can use phantom power when I record guitar, and use its built-in battery when mounted on the SLR camera, so is very versatile.

An excellent broadcast-quality microphone
Anonymous 03.01.2017
The NTG2 is an excellent broadcast quality microphone. And the price is very reasonable for it here. It works well both indoors and outdoors in my experience, if using indoors you may have to place it a bit closer to your subject but it captures audio for interviews with broadcast quality for sure. The phantom power aspect is very useful as is the battery-powered backup. The only slight oddity is that it does not work well if the audio recorder is plugged into the mains -- that way, there is noise on the recording. The construction of the Rode NTG2 feels solid, and since it comes with a 10 year guarantee, you do not need to worry about it breaking down. This is an excellent microphone that works well in a variety of different situations and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

A good starter shotgun mike
Anonymous 28.01.2016
I used for location boom miking for short video productions.

The good- needs phantom but can use AA, this is really convenient as my recorder flies through batteries when supplying phantom power.

Sound quality is very good for the price, in my humble opinion you would need to spend a minimum of three times the amount to hear a leap in sound quality. Audiophiles will differ, but at this price range it's really good.

Side rejection is very good, rear rejection not so good, do not use it in confined spaces, you will be overwhelmed by reflections.

I considered the cheaper NTG1, which is also shorter but no AA option, spend the extra and go for this. You'll thank yourself
