Shure Beta 56a
Alex Bourner 19.07.2015
This microphone is one of the best microphones to use on a drum kit especially on the toms. It is ultra sturdy and can handle any knocks with ease without damaging the internal components. Any of the Shure Beta series will not let you down with the sound it produces.

It is very compact and designed for very close mic placement handling high SPL's. It keeps the sound isolated due to its super cardioid polar pattern. It is well worth saving up for a professional microphone like this instead of working up to it or going for a cheaper alternative. The XLR connector at the bottom of the mic simplifies the setup and makes the placement much more flexible.

A
Mic for everything
Anonymous 07.03.2014
I just needed a mic for my drummer's snare and I found a mic that I can use for nearly everything. It is build for drums especially for snare or toms. And for that it is perfect. It is very small and the connection for the xlr cable is built in the stand so you don't have troubles with the Hi-hat. I really like the sound of the snare drum. But I also used it for my guitar amp. I use a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade and usually I take my Shure sm 57 for it. But last month I tried the Beta 56A because I forgot the 57 and I was surprised what mics can do to your sound. I think I have to buy another Beta 56 or two. I tried it as well in the studio for vocals and it worked too.
So my recomendation for you is: 1. Buy this Mic. 2. Try it on every instrument.

A
Great for Drum Vocals
Anonymous 06.01.2015
I use this as a vocal mic as I play drums and its quite directional so doesn't get much spill. It's really full sounding, same diaphragm as a Beta 57 as far as I know. I bring it to a lot of gigs and sound engineers are always happy with how it sounds and I know how pedantic they can be.

I've also dropped it on numerous occasions and its buld quality has stood up to a good battering.

Love it

B
A different design using the Beta 57 head, perfect for drums
BernieW 25.06.2022
This is the same microphone head as the Beta 57 in a different package. The manufacturing quality is obvious, with proven ruggedness on the road. When used with the Shure A56 rim mount it gives you excellent positioning options on toms or snare, and will fit other stands for use with guitar amps or other instruments. Also a favourite vocal mic for singing drummers. You can recognise the sound of a Beta 56 or Beta 57 on snare, with strong attack and a full yet bright tone. Often chosen for a bottom snare mic in a 2-mic setup. Has been a pro standard for snare, guitar and also toms for years. I recommend the Shure A56 rim mount when using the Beta 56 on drums
