PLEK Service Premium - Refretting and Dressing of Stainless Steel Frets

Behind the brand name PLEK is a patented procedure that facilitates perfect dressing of the fretboard, fretwork, nut, bridge, as well as an overall improved adjustment of the string action.

In close consultation with you, our team optimises the string action and thus the playability of your instrument. Intonation problems that are the result of a disproportionately high string action are also eliminated.

The PLEK machine sensor technology misses the neck of the instrument and creates a specific profile.

Any unevenness in the fretboard and frets is corrected with a tolerance of 0.01 mm, resulting in no more buzz in the strings and an even die off.

After polishing the frets, individual alignment adjustments of the intonation and string action are then made in accordance with your personal requirements.

A worthwhile upgrade!

I'd looked at the idea of getting stainless steel frets for a while, having never played a guitar with them in. I'd also bought a few Harley Bentons in the past.

Harley Bentons always have issues with the fretwork, so I normally get them fret dressed by my local luthier. For a change, I decided to buy the Harley Benton CST-24T P90 and add the Stainless Steel re-fret/Plek to my basket.

Even with everything going on at the moment, the wait time was only just under a month, which I am very happy about.

The work looks to have been done very well. I believe they've also conditioned the fretboard, as the Harley Bentons are usually very dry, but this one is great.

It's turned a Harley Benton into a completely different guitar playing experience that could compete with any guitar at least twice it's value.

Would highly recommend getting a Plek service, and especially with a stainless steel re-fret.

The only thing to note is that the guitar tech sets the guitar up with a considerable forward bow, which will need adjusting when you receive the guitar. This is possible for transit reasons.

Update: 1 start removed, as they no longer offer this service on new guitars.

Fantastic service, despite a few hiccups
Michael9841 02.02.2020
I managed to drop off two guitars to be refretted, including Plek service, just as flu season struck the workshop. The end result is that it took about 4 weeks for me to get my guitars back. My bad luck.

The good news - they were done perfectly, set up nicely, and play perfectly. They also were packed very well. The shop also did a good job of communicating with me once people were back from sick leave.

Perfect service for a vintage Gibson
MrMoj 04.10.2022
I sent my 70s Gibson Les Paul there, because it needed a new nut and also bc I wanted to try the plekking service for ages. All in all, not disappointed! It is a bit pricey, but everything now fits perfectly, from intonation to action to fret height, and the new nut is fitted in perfectly. Really nice and accurate work from the Thomann team!
