Bold as silent brass

The Yamaha SB7J Trumpet Silent Brass System is a practical - and considerate - solution for trumpeters and cornetists who want to practise at virtually any time without disturbing those around them. At the same time, it supports a relaxed and tonally accurate playing technique, with the mute reducing the volume while also improving the instrument's balance within the bell to help minimise playing stress. Yamaha's Brass Resonance Modelling technology goes a step further by compensating for the characteristic sound of the mute and reproducing the natural tone of an open, unmuted instrument. As a result, players can practise at a significantly reduced volume while hearing an authentic representation of their instrument's normal sound, making the mute feel far less intrusive while playing.

Plenty of features on board

Now in its third generation, the Yamaha SB7J Trumpet introduces several additional functions, including sound modulations that simulate the experience of listening to the trumpet from different positions, i.e. either in front of or behind the instrument. The reverb width can also be adjusted continuously, allowing players to recreate the acoustic impression of venues ranging from smaller rooms to larger spaces. The microphone, its positioning, and the mute itself have all been refined to make better use of the instrument's natural characteristics and the capabilities of the Silent Brass System. With its low blowing resistance and compact design, the mute also works effectively as a standalone practice mute, even without the additional electronics.

Personal studio included

The Yamaha SB7J Silent Brass System trumpet is well suited to anyone who wants to practise or play without disturbing family members or neighbours, whether at home, in a hotel room, or whenever else it's important to keep the volume low. Its capabilities, however, extend beyond quiet practice, as the system can also be useful for producers who want to play directly into a DAW with the appropriate adapter, as well as for musicians and bands working on songs and tracks remotely. The package includes Yamaha's free Rec'n'Share app, which connects the Silent Brass System to compatible smart devices and allows players to practise or play along with tracks stored on their device. Performances can also be recorded as audio files or videos with audio, making it straightforward to capture and share playing sessions online.

About Yamaha

For decades, Yamaha has been one of the world's best-known manufacturers of musical instruments and audio technology. The Japanese company's long history began at the end of the 19th century with the harmonium. The product range has constantly expanded since then, which has made Yamaha one of the few manufacturers today to offer almost the entire range of existing musical instruments: From upright and grand pianos to guitars, wind instruments, and bowed string instruments and from drums and percussion to electronic keyboards and synthesizers. Yamaha is also a major force in the field of audio engineering as a manufacturer of mixing consoles, amplifiers, PA systems, and more. Yamaha's guiding principle is to combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology.

One size fits (almost) all

The mutes of the Yamaha SB7J Trumpet Silent Brass System are designed for quick fitting and removal while remaining securely in place during use. In the revised, more compact version, the precise fit is such that, with standard-sized instruments, the trumpet or cornet can often be placed in its case without removing the mute from the bell. However, the Pickup Mute may not be suitable for instruments with a significantly different bell diameter or shape, so checking compatibility is recommended before purchase (a compatibility table is available on the product page and should be consulted carefully to ensure that the Yamaha SB7J Trumpet Silent Brass System is suitable for the intended instrument).

As a beginner I bought this mute so that I didn’t annoy people with my repetitive playing and what a game changer - the sound is perfect and my playing has improved 100%, I’m no longer self conscious.I thoroughly recommend this mute.
The service from Thomann was brilliant and quick. I’ve used them before and will use them again.
