AKAI Professional APC 40 Mk2

Das Ding funktioniert sehr gut. Ich produziere mit Ableton Live und div. Software Instrumenten.

Der APC 40 macht hier allerdings mehr Sinn beim Live-Performen als zum Produzieren. Zum zuhause Basteln war ein billiges Midi-Keyboard eindeutig die bessere Investition, und der APC kommt dabei selten zum Einsatz. Doch wenn es um das Live Rumspielen, Performen und Basteln geht, ermöglicht der APC ganz neue Dimensionen, ich liebe die Endlos-Drehregler mit LED-Kranz, davon bräuchte ich noch viel mehr. Davon könnte ich glatt nochmal bitte vier oder acht Stück an den APC ranschrauben.

Die Fader laufen sehr rund und der Crossfader spricht sehr, sehr glatt an. Ich habe keinerlei DJ-Background und kann die Fader jetzt nicht groß vergleichen, aber ich denke, die tun was sie sollen. Manchmal sind einzelne Kanäle jedoch etwas lauter oder leiser als geplant, und man muss aufgrund der kleinen Dimensionen der Fader die Ohren benutzen oder auf den Monitor schauen, da es auf dem APC etwas fitzelig ist. (Blöd ist das manchmal beim Master-Channel) Der Crossfader ist eine meiner neuen Lieblinge, ich wußte vorher nicht wirklich, das Ableton überhaupt einen hat oder wofür der gut ist und nun kommt der für Livesessions ständig zum Einsatz.
Ich habe bis aus die Clip-Launcher Matrix und die Fader so ziemlich alle Knöpfe und Encoder selber belegt und empfehle unbedingt, sich so ein eigenes Instrument zu basteln, denn die Standardbelegung macht für mich nur sehr eingeschränkt Sinn. Ist ja aber alles frei programmierbar. Einzig das farbliche Feedback bei den Pads folgt manchmal nicht ganz meinen Vorstellungen bei eigenen Programmierungen, was aber der Funktionalität keinen Abbruch tut und evtl. durch Programmieren eines eigenen Plugins irgendwie behoben werden kann..
Also was soll ich sagen, wenn ihr Bock drauf habt, kauft euch das Teil. Natürlich ist es nicht das einzig richtige und es gibt unendlich viele Arten Live zu Performen aber mit hats gut getan, habe mich getraut erste Auftritte zu starten und das wäre ohne einen solchen Controller natürlich nicht möglich gewesen..

Après 3 mois d'utilisation,

• les points négatifs :
> Impossible de re-paramétrer l'AKAI ! Il manque un soft à côté pour changer les fonctions MIDI à posteriori. Mais on sait très bien qu'AKAI ne fait pas ça.
> Du coup, les MIDI-CC les plus courants ne sont pas présents : CC0, CC1, CC4, CC7, CC11 etc... vous achetez l'AKAI en toute connaissance de cause. Et pour couronner le tout (et là je sais pas je suis peut-être le seul à avoir le problème) quand je click sur "midi learn" dans un VST, l'AKAI n'est pas détectée. Donc y'a vraiment AUCUN moyen de configurer les touches du contrôleur pour AUTRE CHOSE que leur fonction première.
> le cable USB-B fourni est ridicule en longueur, limite il n'est pas assez grand pour rejoindre les ports usb derrière votre PC ! Prévoyez d'en commander un en même temps que l'AKAI.

• les points positifs :
> Gros accélérateur de workflow. Tous les raccourcis Ableton "de base" sont là, et plus encore avec les 8 potards du haut en mode USER qu'on peut assigner à d'autres fonctions via midi-mapping d'Ableton UNIQUEMENT.
> La plateforme, malgré son côté plastique, est solide : les potards sont agréables et robustes, les launchpads sont de qualité. Là-dessus c'est du bel ouvrage !
> Plug and play : on branche, ça marche. Et aucune alimentation externe, l'USB suffit, quel plaisir !
• Conclusion :
Est-ce que je regrette mon achat ? Non, loin de là. Je peux même dire que c'est plus possible pour moi de me passer de ce contrôleur, car tout y est. C'est le compagnon idéal d'Ableton, encore + pour ceux qui feront du Live avec. Certains regrettent qu'elle n'ait pas d'écrans, pour voir les paramètres qu'on contrôle, bon bah dans ces cas là vous achetez un Push. Mais ici pour moins de 300e, vous avez tout Ableton sous les doigts. On retourne quand même à la souris pour éditer des clips, des longueurs de boucles etc.

all controllers are "tweakers" or "launchers-triggers" or "keyboards". This one tries to cover all.
As a Keyboard Akai APC 40 Mk2 is not good. Pads are not velocity sensitive - not nice for recording drums or instrument parts - but still you can do it at on-the-go conditions.
As a "Launcher" - I personally find it very nice. 8 channel scenes is cool. When I work at the live sport events I need a variety of samples at my fingertips - Akai APC 40 Mk2 just shines here! I created my own template based on the default one.
As a Tweaker Akai Apc 40 Mk2 offers you 8 knobs-per-selected channel + 1 knob on the top - These knobs are endless spin with a nice travel. But it is often not enough. When Dj - I use a different Template and here I need an extra "Tweaker" to expand tweaking abilities of the device (I use DJTT Twister which is an amazing tweaking device) and for the reset (quick set-to-default) feature.

Mechanically Akai APC 40 Mk2 seems to be proof enough. Not a single issue while using it for 2 years (carefully but intensevely)
Faders and knobs are reliable not flimsy. I would recommend a plastic cover to lingering the lifetime of the device.

so Pro's:
- Universality and functionality within live or studio conditions
- Great launcher (Trigger)
- Fair Tweaker
- Made quality
- light weight
- Well thought Templates available
- Keeps your eyes away from the computer screen
- Foot controller switch functionality
- USB powering
- Price for all that

Con's:
- Not for a Keyboard-ing or Drum Pad-ing
- Not as compact as you may think (not a Con for me though)
- Volume faders a bit tricky to spot on the "0" level (I use fabric tape)
- Triggered clip is indicated in green weakly pulsing (I avoid green color when colouring the steady clips and miss hard pulsing)

I would recommend it for Ableton users as a "Launcher" ("Trigger") controller to pair it with some other "tweaker" deviceand keyboard if needed for a beautifull setup !

Questo controller si integra alla perfezione con ableton live per cui è stato concepito, ma di fatto tramite il protocollo midi, può essere utilizzato (con le dovute attenzioni) anche per altri software.
Di fatto resta un must per chi necessitasse di gestire i numerosi comandi di live.

Di buona fattura, leggero e solido al tatto.
Risulta rapido nella risposta dei comandi, e dopo un primo periodo di apprendimento, sarà facile gestiore i parametri di tracce e devices inseriti.
Non richiede alimentazioni esterne se non quella della usb con cui viene collegato alla daw.

Se proprio volessimo trovare una pecca, si sente l'assenza dei faders motorizzati; tuttavia si aggangiano rapidamente alle tracce nel caso fassero stati spostati dei parametri tramite mouse direttamente dal computer.

Gli 8 encorders rotativi per la gestione dei vari devices, funzionano molto bene e la ghiera luminosa tiene traccia dei nostri spostamenti.
L'assenza di un display che possa indicare il nome del parametro che stiamo modificando, si fa sentire; poichè non sempre troveremo lo stesso econder per comandi simili (ad esempio per un gain).
Per una rapida gestione di un device, un periodo di apprendimento maggiore è consigliato, al fine di memorizzare i comandi.
In ogni caso, la facile mappatura del controller, permette una gestione personalizzabile.
Ottima la possibilità di inserire un pedale di controllo, che risulta utile per dare degli start o per una precisa gestione del looper.

Uso o APC 40 mk2 em casa para me ajudar a navegar no Ableton e para live sessions. Estou bastante satisfeito com o produto.
Pros: Tem uma grande grelha de botões que permite controlar praticamente todos os aspetos do Ableton. Com um pouco de paciência, pode se mapear a gosto para controlar virtualmente todos os aspetos do programa.
É uma boa interface entre intrumentos acústicos e eletrónicos, já que pode funcionar como armador de faixas para gravação de loops.
Contras: Tem uma construção de plástico que apesar de grande qualidade dá um feel mais leve que pode ser um problema para algumas pessoas.
Não possui uma opção para que os botões funcionem como pads
tal como a versão anterior.

instead of choosing the old Apc40 - i've decided to try this new mk2 (a complete remake version)

first impression:
*robust construction, steady knobs and faders.
*slim size (nicer format)
*bigger buttons in the launchgrid.
*led in buttons give a better visual feedback of clips and where selection in the clip-launcher is located
*knobs feels steady and more robust.
*faders feels improved, movement and durability
*layout and other buttons feels better places and more for "live" use (subjective of course)

over all feeling:
i've only used it for a week, but the feeling is that it suits me better in how i wanna use it. and how to select and control ableton in a live-situation, without having the need to look at the screen and/or use mouse to select and navigate.

positive
+ rigid construction
+ knobs and faders feels more robust
+ multicolored LED-feedback in launchgrid

negative
- missing a 4 by 2 knobs layout for assignable knobs (my subjective opinion)
-crossfader / A-B fader is no longer easy to switch when worn out (old apc had an easy mount from backside of the controller)
-kind of expensive in my opinion

*this is first impression - still working with it, and still find new stuff i like with it

overall - a really nice controller for Ableton Live (best so far)

LA APC40 Mark II es un controlador USB bastante robusto y útil tanto a la hora de producir como de organizar un live set o parte del mismo.

Lo bueno es que es muy robusta, construída en un plástico muy resistente y fiable. Muchas funciones muy útiles como envíos, pan, y opciones de configuración personalizada. Así como los Knobs infinitos iluminados cuya precisión es buena (aunque mejorable). A mi me facilita mucho las labores de grabación ya que tienes todo en una mesa fisica para armar el canal, ponerlo a grabar, parar etc...
Lo malo es que se echa en falta algún knob más, alguna función com Undo, Redo... más sencillez en su utilización y quizás una integración mejor con ableton (para mi gusto) ya que hay veces que la fluidez trabajando con Ableto es muy buena pero se interrumpe por no saber realmente qué parametro estas tocando del instrumento, efecto, rack, con el que estés trabajando, siempre que no sean Macros de Ableton.
