I use this for bass guitar...
I'm not sure how this performs for cello as I'm using it on my fretless bass guitar which is fitted with flatwound strings (roundwound strings don't bow well and damage the bow much quicker)
I have not been using it for very long but so far I have been very impressed with it, it gives me exactly the sound I was looking for. There are plenty of videos now around the internet showing the sound of a bowed electric bass so I'd suggest having a look at them if you're not sure about the possibilities.
The quality of this bow is very good considering the price. I've seen ones at much higher prices and didn't really notice the difference. It looks good and feels nice to hold and play with, not awkward in any way (once you get used to the pull length). I wanted a full sized, long bow so that I could hold/play notes for longer as I've been using this in a slow drone style project so having a large bow definitely helps with this. I've not burst any of the hairs on it yet and, though I've not been using it long, I've played several long sessions with it and it's been fine.
Definitely a cheap and quick way to get cello/string style sounds without breaking the bank - I couldn't afford to buy an actual cello, nor do I really have the space for one or the time to learn it, so this provided me with the ability to get very similar sounds from my bass. Really helpful. Don't forget the roisin, though ! (probably people reading this will know what that is but I had no idea when I bought this that such a thing was required. I learned soon enough !)
