Classic solution but it won't last forever.
I've been using this instead of the classic springs on my strats the last 20 years with great success.
Cut it to the right length (subjective) install it and that's it. The longer the length, the tighter it will be (that also translates into the fact that you will be able to set the pickups lower, provided you are using longer screws).
I've beem using them to both conventional Fender single coils and SC sized Dimarzio humbuckers with success.
Just keep in mind that after a few years (depends on the use, conditions etc.) it will lose its elasticity so you will have to replace it eventually.
