Perfect all-round chorus
I use this pedal primarily for bass, and honestly this is better than the specific BOSS bass chorus. The low/high filter gives you so much more tonal variety, which is lacking on the CEB-3. Aside from that, it's typical BOSS design: easy to understand for beginners, durable, reliable, and has a great distinct sound. This thing is perfect both for post-punk twangy strums and for fretless jazz playing with plenty of harmonics. Cannot recommend enough.

Excellent!
The pedal is quite simple to use, once you expirement with it for a short while. The Pedal has an E. Level (Wet/Dry signal), Rate (Vibrato effect), Depth (Level of Chorus), and a Filter. The unique thing about this chorus, over the Boss Super Chorus, is its Filter. Its a two-stage filter, so basicly you can filter your Hi's and Lo's (Bass & Treble). The filter is really the reason i chose this pedal, because you can achieve alot more sounds w/ it. This pedal can make a large variaty of sounds. I can tweak this pedal to perfection at times. Currently I'm playing a MIM Stratocaster along w/ a Peavey Classic 30, and the pedal can achieve the sound of my favorite artists like RHCP, Janes Addiction, and Jimi Hendrix. This is my personal favorite Chorus pedal, and I've owned a EHX small clone, and I think its a great pedal as well, but I prefer this over it, simply because you can tweak this Boss to sound exactly how you like.

A subtle, smooth chorus for guitar and bass alike
I use the CE-5 mainly on my bass pedalboard. it gives that nice shimmer without taking over the sound. The reason this works as a bass chorus particularly well is the filter option to limit the effect to the highs (or the lows if you'd so prefer, but on a bass the lows become quite muddy). It makes those runs to the upper register of your bass shine and ring out nicely, all in all it can be very subtle -
you might be the only one that actually knows its there but its still there, enhancing the the colour of your sound.
I believe Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses used this pedal to get that liquid, sparkling clear sound that the bass has on Use Your Illusion albums.
Of course this pedal works wonders on guitar as well, again I prefer the subtle nature that this pedal can give but you can go all out if you so desire, just experiment with the depth and rate knobs to get the sound you're looking for. Compared to some other chorus pedals, it might not be so instantly recognizable or as unique in sound but you can switch it on without noticing a radical change in sound or an audible "click" sound, that is sometimes an unfortunate by product of an effect.
Sturdy as they are, Boss pedals are built to last and are user friendly, not too complicated but get the job done. Great option for smooth natural effect to give your clean sound the character it might lack.

Nice pedal from Boss, the Chorus Ensemble CE-5.
Clear indication of control by knobs and interface.
E. level, rate, depth of the tone, and a dual high and low filter knob.
Can be used in either single (mono) or dual set-up.
Used on my pedal board amongst other (Boss) pedals. Generally, this pedal is used for guitarists but even though I am a bass player, the quality of the chorus does not seem to fail (it is impacted by the state, and quality, of your amp either combo or stack).
So far, no negative points from my side.

What doesn't sound good with Boss chorus?
Originally bought it back in the day before it was stolen. Instantly bought another one because I can't play without it.
There is nothing more heavenly than the sound of a Fender strat and a Boss CE-5 chorus.
Like all Boss pedals, they're built to last for decades. It's a must have if you like you're cleans.

Great chorus
Great pedal with wide rainge of sounds. Very good presence in the band. And last but not least this efect makes me extremly creativ.
