Boss of Bosses

What a great gadget....I was looking for something to get song ideas down and had tried other recorders but they didn't allow for multiple layering....this baby lets you stick down drum beats, bass parts, rhythm guitars and lead work and vocals and lets you master your work so it can be downloaded and burnt to Cd. Everybody knows what it's like trying to get new songs done via practices...well this lets you get a proper working demo which is absolutely brilliant.
You can do live recording of work also with decent sound quality letting you hear how your band or yourself are playing. It's easy to use, with well laid out menus with enter and exit prompts so you don't inadvertently dump anything you wanted to keep, a multitude of boss effects and if you use a large memory card you can put whole catalogues of work through it.
It also has a great training / play along facility where you can edit out the parts you want to learn / practice and it includes software to allow detailed mastering of your work.
I would easily recommend this to any level of musician it's small, compact so easy to use and very, very impressive. Get one and enjoy making your music it's that easy.

A
Great device for capturing ideas
Andrex 07.03.2017
This is a great device for capturing ideas and practising parts before recording. I use this mainly as a tool for capturing ideas when I'm noodling on the guitar, it takes less than a minute to get up and running so the creative flow does not get interrupted. If you spend the time to create custom drum patterns it is helpful, as some of the default patterns can be a bit annoying.
I also use it for practising guitar parts before I record them, being able to reduce the speed while keeping the pitch unchanged is a great feature and allows me to build up my speed on complicated parts before I record them.
The thumb wheel that you use to select many of you options can get a bit mental and not respond as it should. I resolved this by spraying electrical contact cleaner into the thumb wheel, while it was turned off of course and left if to dry over night, the wheel is performing as it should.

Useful and complete

A lot of sounds inside, fast to set. The only remark: I would expect a lithium battery for this price rechargable via USB as a mobile

I wanted to have one device for everything as Guitar Trainer and recording studio that is not too big and it has a good sound, and it is easy to handle and has connections to the instrument, and output to a computer or USB. memory card.
BOSS is a device BR-80 acceded to my wishes. Everything I counted contains, in that it also has a high-speed recorder for recording live. I first worked with the BOSS BR 600, s is a very good device, but only for recording, then by APLE iPad2, which has a great sound, but does not have a connection to the instrument, so you need extra connectors and cables. BOSS BR-80 is the perfect solution all in one stock exchanges additional connections. Sound I am pleased with izmenjlivo memorijsko card is especially powerful. The size is suitable for the pocket, so that it can be got at all times.
Herb useful concern for every creative musician.

M
Great for home guitar practice, not so great for MT recording
Myst 18.09.2020
I ordered the Boss BR-80 mainly for practicing at home without the hassle of setting up an amp and effects and so on. Quite simple, guitar in, headphones out, wide variety of backing tracks and recommended guitar tones, plus you can also use your computer to transfer your favourite play along songs. The e-Band function is great. However, it took a lot of time to figure out how the multi track recorder works, and then setting up the percussions and all is a big hassle. Moreover, the live recording function with the condensator mics sounds good, may even work in a small home studio, but didn't quite work as expected to record a live jam sessions. Additionally I ordered the boss adapter so I don't run through my AAs.
All in all a good product for guitar practice.

a nice tool to have
bjerkely 21.11.2017
I use BR-80 as a guitar practice tool. It took a few days to get used to the menu and getting efficient with it but I like it so far.

One bad thing is that the batteries do not hold for a long time. And I cannot power it from a USB hub , somehow it doesn't work for me.

Fiddly but fun
Michael9506 24.05.2015
Very useful indeed for banging out quick overdubs on compositional ideas, or recording on the fly. Nice build, good simple layout. Lots of features you will probably never use, presets etc.(Not sure who it's aimed at) Decent quality, if leaning towards the bright, recording with internal mics. Better of course with external mics. Generous battery usage.

Good for songwriting
Björn6925 03.08.2015
This little thing is great for saving your ideas. The sounds are just so and so. You can record multible guitar, bass, drums and vocals using the BR-80 and nothing else. So like I said: Really handy tool that fits in your guitarcase.

A
Fiddly but effective little recorder.
Anonymous 16.08.2014
Lots of accessing menus to get stuff done, especially MTR mode and putting a song together. Sounds good, with reasonable if a bit harsh internal mics, and the effects are a useful addition. Programming drums on this is a nightmare, but I'm not that good at it anyway. I sold it on in the end for a multitrack field recorder which suits me much better (I just like to overlay a few ideas on my acoustic). I went back to using my Tascam DP-008, which I think has much better internal mics and lots of hardware knobs to twiddle. Battery life on the Boss BR-80 is not good, so you definitely need an AC adapter. The great thing about it is it sounds pretty, has lots of bells and whistle if you learn it well, and will fit right in your gig bag.
