Awesome Speaker!!
Seegs2 04.07.2014
One of the 3 new speakers released by Celestion, the A Type is supposed to be a high headroom American voiced speaker. I really don't hear that. I bought it to replace a Celestion Gold to give my Morgan RG15 more headroom and volume for gigs. The Morgan is similar to a Vox AC15.

It does have more headroom but that is mostly because the bass is very tight and punchy, unlike the Gold where the bass end breaks up. The A Type also does not have the British chime or top end sparkle of the Gold but it has a nice and round and warm top end that is still clear. This speaker sounds great clean and also over drives very creamy smooth.

The most surprising thing is that it sounds better with a Vox style amp than it does with my 64 Blackface Bassman. In the Bassman I love 10" Golds and use 3 of them.

M
Warm speaker to fill up a boxy cab
MMihai3 23.01.2020
I ordered this speaker to compensate for the boxy tone of my Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo because, with the V-Type the amp was originally provided with, the tone was too thin and boxy. This A-Type speaker did exactly what I was expecting it to do.

The tone of the A-Type is wide, has more bass than the V-Type and I think it is a bit louder - though I did not perform a shootout. It sounds full, sweet and creamy. I would not recommend it in a dark sounding cabinet.

The speaker could be mounted with no issues - only the poly membrane, inside the screw holes, needed to be punched - it is soft, though.
