While they do take the volume of the cymbals down, they also kill the tone of it. I would not recommend to use the bigger ones for live playing.
For practicing they come pretty handy.

Pretty useful, but not as good as they promise

These do but down the volume of the cymbals. However, they but off the high end, and shorten the sustain.
