Authentic 50's sound.
Anonymous 20.05.2016
My guitar is equipped with Gretsch Dynasonic single-coil pickups. They're huge coils with giant magnets, designed in late 40's. By today's standards they're low output but broad range pickups. In the early days, the goal was to amplify hollow-body guitar, and nickel strings were the way to go to get the most natural sound. Steel wrapped strings were introduced as humbuckers got more popular (usually to compensate lack of top end).

EPN series strings deliver what I was looking for - clear sounds and balanced tone for my Gretsch. They last longer then steel wrapped strings, and are easier on your frets, as nickel winding is softer.

I'm glad that they're still around, as you don't have to many options when it comes to pure nickel strings. They meet all my expectations when it comes to tone (not too bright, but not as dull as flatwounds).

My only concern is, like with most string sets, that plain strings (E, B, G) give up a bit early, as wound strings last longer than your usual steel, or nickel on steel wrapping.

My go to 11's
Fred739 09.04.2018
Came across these, as I was looking for something that would be a bit kinder to my frets and also a bit less bright than regular strings. I use them on both my tele and strat and they're all I use now. There's a slight taming of the shrill highs that are synonymous with strats and teles. Just an overall nice tone and feel to these pure nickel strings.

My favourite strings
HHHugo 10.01.2021
i have been using both the 10’s and the 11’s of these strings for 3 years now and hope i never have to switch to another type or brand.

they have a really traditional feel and sound, and they never seem to start to sound ”dead”, but, being pure nickle they have a tendency to flatten out where they have been pressed against the frets, nevertheless they never break, fall apart or loose tension because of this

My choice for the Squier VM Jaguar to complete that vintage sound
WozaPT 03.10.2018
The Squire VM Jaguar comes with 9s as standard which many believe are too light for the 24" scale and the general consensus is to go with 11s. I certainly found the stock strings awful and it was easy to push the high E off the fret board unless you were very careful. So as the main aim of my Squire Jaguar purchase was to create that vintage 60s sound I opted for these pure nickle 11s and I must say they sound great and have transformed the Squire VM Jaguar (in conjunction with a replacement Mustang style bridge). If you are looking for a vintage surf rock 50s/60s sound and are using one of the 24" scale Fenders these may be the strings for you.

VN
Not for jazz
Vadim N. 08.08.2019
Too bright and clangy for jazz, in my opinion. Nickel Wound are much better for blues and jazz

I love these strings on my 335 and 330
pacordes 10.02.2019
I love these strings on my 335 and 330 - they allow rock, blues and great jazz tones, without excessive finger noise. I don't even think on returning to flat wounds on these guitars!

Vintage warm sound
Anonymous 06.05.2014
Warm sounding, very suitable for jazzy styles, blues and 60's ~ 70's rock.

String choice is a very personal thing. This is the set I prefer the most. A string set that I believe you should at least try once.
