An excellent unit- ideal for cost effective midi pedals - but need work

Pros
Solid, good quality

I've been looking for bass pedals on ebay for about a year, but they all go for silly money. This is great purchase to be the basis for playing midi keys with your feet. The build quality is very good, solid and I'm confident they will last. I didn't buy the metal plate, but regret not doing so, as the work to cut out a panel around the elliptical buttons is off-putting. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Cons
Short on useful details
There are some shortcomings. The instructions are rather opaque. I managed to plug the midi converter plug in upside down and spent about an hour trying to work out where I'd gone wrong. The supplied power supply is an EU 2-pin of a design that doesn't readily convert or fit converter plugs. So you really should replace it. The midi sockets need to be mounted through a surface, but are already soldered in place, so you'll need to desolder to do that. And finally the power socket on the converter board is mounted in such a way that you'll need to fix this at the very top edge of your case. A simple set of case dimensions would be helpful, and you have to attach a couple of long feet for the pedals to operate and once again it would help to know what depth of wood you need.

But I'm still a fan. Though I'd buy the metal plate if I was buying again.

Great pedal, worked first time, DIY required.

You do need some DIY skills to put together a case, and the steel front panel (sold seperately) is a must, and a shame it isn't bundled with the set as I can't imagine anyone doing without it. The other slight issue is that the midi sockets/cables are soldered to the board rather than plugged it - this means that you either have to desolder them or cut a slot for the cable when you mount the sockets on a panel. It would have been handy had there been a printed panel for the sockets as well as the main unit. Another oddity is the power socket is soldered to the board (unlike the midi sockets) so you need to be careful siting the main board to allow access to the power.

Pro: This is a great bit if kit and saves quite a lot of money over buying ready made. For me it just worked first time.

Con: You need reasonable DIY skills and it helps if you have various scrap material/bolts etc. to build a case. I managed to put one together in an afternoon, but if your DIY skills aren't up to much look elsewhere.

Just ok but not great.

Everything works fine but the frame could have been made more sturdy, maybe of metal. This would have added some weight which is important for a floor pedal. The surround I made is heavy and solid so all good. Just too much plastic these days!

Affordable DIY Organ Bass Pedal
bassbertel 22.05.2019
First one i ordered was broken, but the 2nd pedal worked fine.
Manual is included, but not very clear. Looks a bit amateurish.
I use it to play a Bass-Synth (at home only) and it does what it should.
Sturdy, but not unbreakable, i guess. There is a reason, why the other pedals cost much more and are made from metal. Recommended, but for home use only!
