The Elektron Model:Samples is a compact sample player that musicmakers of all kinds can use to personalise their in great depth and detail – whether it's their own samples or professionally made, customised sound packs. It's based on Electron's high-quality sound engines and the flexible sequencing options that come with them. A variety of very hands-on control elements on the front panel, with one function for each key, provides numerous options for sound design. Other features provided are a multimode filter and a freely assignable LFO in addition to Reverb and Delay, both of which complete the sound performance. Using the six pads, samples can be played on the fly. With the integrated sequencer, patterns can be created by manual recording or programming, distortion can also be added to each of the six tracks.
The small menu at the top left shows an overview of the parameter settings. Users can operate the filter as high or low pass, while the starting point, length and pitch of the samples can be varied. Use the reload function to go back to the starting point again and again, if necessary. Tunes can be performed melodically via the keyboard in chromatic mode – which can also be used for brilliant bass lines. The Elektron Model:Samples can store total of 96 projects, and has a library of 300 preset sounds supplied by Splice: However, with the software Transfer. users can simply drag and drop their own mono samples via the device's USB connection.
Whether it's being used live by a DJ in the club or as a studio drum computer – the Eletron Model:Samples is flexible enouugh to shine in any situation thanks to its versatile features and simple handling. Weighing in a less than a kilo, it's an immensely compact unit that's very easy to handle; the rubber feet on the back prevent it from slipping on smooth surfaces. Both the MIDI Out/Thru and the MIDI In are integrated as TRS mini sockets – the Elektron Model:Samples can thus be operated via MIDI, while a stereo main out and a headphone output are also included. This sturdy sampler can be even personalized with the stickers supplied.

With the six pads, tracks can be selected individually – the workflow could scarcely be simpler – and programmed with the sequencer using the 16 buttons provided at the bottom. If the Function and Track buttons are held down, notes can be transposed using to the striking orange encoder. The sequence of notes played can be recorded live, with or without quantization. Later, the timing can be edited precisely, allowing the Swing to be adjusted as well. By using parameter locks, the parameters for each step can be automated, resulting in a completely different sound; these changes can also be recorded live. All musicians need to do is hold down the respective step key for a simple overview, and the red LEDs show immediately which parameters have been changed. The Chance function also applies percentage-based changes to all parameters, allowing creative beatmakers to quickly create diverse variations of the patterns.
