Great alternative to other active humbuckers.

Tried it on a whim as a middle humbucker in my custom Dean Z and it works amazingly well! It has more bass than an 81 (which it is often described as a vintage equivalent of) but still has an enough high end to not get muddy. Obviously being used a middle pickup doesn’t give a better overall sound example but it works for what I need and I would definitely buy it again!

Wer behauptet das er wie ein „vintage 81“ klingt hat offenbar noch keinen der alten 81er gehört :-)

Lasst euch nichts erzählen. Die Beschreibung das er wie ein, kräftiger, P90 klingt ist da schon eher richtig. Allerdings fehlen mir da ein bisschen die grantig growligen Tiefmitten Anteile.
Er klingt, am Steg, wie ein sehr kräftiger Telepickup bei dem man die Höhen ein bisschen rausgedreht hat. Höhen sind da, aber er twängt nicht. Die Aussage das er für Hard und Heavy Anwendungen taugt kann man aber durchaus so stehen lassen. Wobei mir da der 85 am Steg deutlich besser gefällt.

Also ab an Hals und da macht er dann eine gute Figur. Egal ob clean mit crunch oder highgain. Man findet immer einen guten Sound. Am liebsten, ganz P90 Like, mit einem angeschmutzten Cleansound. Wobei die Puristen ihm, diesmal zu recht, einen etwas leblosen Sound zuschreiben werden.

Ich weis nicht so richtig welche Nische EMG mit dem Pickup bedienen will, aber meinen Geschmack trifft er nicht so ganz. Er ist irgendwo zwischen 85 und 60 angesiedelt, aber hat weder den lauten Paffsound des 85 noch den singenden Sound des 60.

Bei mir sitzt er am Hals einer Jackson Monark und da fühlt er sich auch ganz wohl. Nochmal kaufen würde ich ihn aber nicht.

Einbau wie immer Schmerzfrei in zehn Minuten erledigt.
Lieferung durch die Thomänner und Frauen wie immer ratzfatz erledigt.

P.s. Ist euch eigentlich bewusst das, wenn man bedenkt was die Potis und Kabel einzeln kosten, der eigentliche Pickup bei EMG nur etwas über 30€ kostet :-)
Dagegen stelle ich jetzt mal einen SD SH4 für 139€ bei dem es gerademal die Schrauben dazu gibt. Da scheint SD eine ordentliche Gewinnspanne zu haben :-)

Un ottimo pickup, forse poco conosciuto, ma con un ottimo suono. Meno aggressivo e compresso dei più conosciti 81-85, ma per questo più versatile, ottimo per hard rock e sonorità Metal meno moderne. L’ho montato su una chitarra auto costruita (pioppo con top in mogano, manico e tastiera in acero) in posizione ponte, suona benissimo sia sui crunch , dove mantiene una buona dinamica, che sui distorti senza mai impastare il suono.
