A genuine powerhouse

Fender's Hot Rod amplifier is now into its fourth generation, but one thing has not changed: This three-channel, 40-watt combo with its onboard reverb unit and effects loop still has the power and sonic flexibility to cover all manner of musical applications, even on the big stage. The design of the preamp has been updated to give the amp's overdrive sounds more definition than ever before, and the spring reverb unit has also received an upgrade that provides enhanced depth and clarity. The solid but lightweight pine cabinet of the Hot Rod Deluxe IV features Fender's signature silver-coloured grille cloth and houses a 12" Celestion speaker which ensures a punchy, powerful sound that will definitely get this amp the attention it deserves. The scope of delivery also includes a footswitch and protective cover.

Three channels for clean, drive, and even more drive

The Hot Rod Deluxe IV would not be a Fender amp if it didn't deliver the classic clean sounds with which the brand is synonymous, but it also features a second channel for dynamic crunch tones and a third for those looking for a more high-gain sound. All three channels are of course foot-switchable, and the corresponding footswitch is included in the scope of delivery as previously mentioned. Players can use the Hot Rod Deluxe IV's effective three-band EQ and Presence knob to dial in their desired tone and adjust the sound to suit the respective instrument, while the Master Volume knob allows the amp's 40 watts of all-tube power to be either tamed or unleashed. The Hot Rod Deluxe IV is equipped with three 12AX7A preamp tubes and two 6L6 power amp tubes, sufficient to hold its own in the rehearsal room, in the studio, and even on stage. The redesigned reverb unit adds just the right amount of bloom and the best ever definition to the sound, but should they wish to do so, players can also run their own reverb and other pedals in the amp's onboard effects loop.

Pure flexibility for stage and studio

Ever since they were launched over 20 years ago, Fender's Hot Rod amplifiers have enjoyed a reputation for being extremely versatile, and for a very good reason. The fourth generation is no exception, and this current incarnation with its three channels, enormous gain reserves, and 40 watts of all-tube power delivers a sound with plenty of presence and flexibility that makes it ideal for the studio and even for the biggest of stages. This combo is thus most eminently suited to seasoned professionals who want an amp that will cover all the bases and has a sufficiently sturdy construction to guarantee many years of reliable service.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

Even less noise, even more tasteful reverb

The only thing that the Hot Rod Deluxe IV delivers less of is unwanted noise, a change that is particularly noticeable when playing overdriven sounds and makes this amp ideal for use in the studio. The onboard effects loop means that there are virtually no limits to how the amp's basic sound can be modified and augmented, and the sound of the integrated spring reverb unit has been enhanced for even more presence and character. The Hot Rod Deluxe IV's Celestion "A-Type" speaker should have sufficient power to get the player's message across clearly on stage, but should more volume be required, a speaker output for connecting an external cabinet is also provided.

Good but not great
Oigimer 14.12.2020
This is a great amp considering it's price, it's well suited for the gigging musician with all the needed features to be a great live pedal platform, but there are a couple things you should consider before deciding:

- There are better sounding amps from fender, if you're looking for the very best with recording in mind, try a deluxe ou any other non master amp from them

- It's not a good solution for home/bedroom playing, because it's loud and control is difficult, the master doesn't work for the clean channel and there is a very high jump in volume from 1 to 2 and beyond that is quite unusable outside a stage or a studio

- the gain channel is an acquired taste, most dislike it, if you're planning to use it as a platform amp that is not an issue

All that being said, this is an awesome amp for most band and/or back-line scenarios, it's light, it's powerful, it has plenty bottom end, it sounds great.

Perfect!

I have owned II and III of HRD versions ..but this one is a real deal!

PROS:
- Sound is amazing
- Volume control is superb
- Distortion channel and more drive are awesome
- Lighter than previous versions for 3-4KG
- I think it doesn't have to have volume box (some kind of attenuator) on fx loop anymore for better response.
- No need to change tubes and speaker ;)

CONS:
- All screws on the amp should be tightened. (they were pretty loose)
- Tolex is poorly attached to the amp which costs 850¤.

A Handy All Round Gigging Amp
Chariotdrvr14 28.03.2019
I wish I'd had this all these years, but better late than never. A very versatile amp as is. I say this but it comes with a caveat that is that I don't think that Fender has really mastered the overdrive on this yet. Still some insufficient midrange on the overdrive section. But I make up for that by using my Blackstar Hi-Dual pedal. And, I did wind up modding this amp by switching out two of the 12AX7's for an 12AY7 and a 12AT7 which smooth out control (or eliminates the volume jump) But all in all I love this amp. It's been really handy for gigging when I don't want to drag along a bigger rig or if the style I'm playing is better suited for its clean tones and lovely vintage sounding spring reverb sound

It is en excellent amlifier - with a beautiful sond that I've been longing for. The only thing that I would change is to place the knobs from the top to the frontside.
