Quality control at the Harley Benton factory in China is way better than quality control at the Squier factory in Indonesia. It’s hit and miss, and I was very unlucky to receive a Squier P bass that had been very poorly produced in Indonesia. Bits of wood were flaking off an exceptionally dry and damaged fretboard. The instrument was not even remotely set up and I needed to do many hours of work on it before it became playable. And this P bass cost me £359.
By complete contrast, I bought a fretless J bass from Harley Benton for £175 that was absolutely perfect on arrival, straight from the box.
