The electronic conductor

A device such as the Multiclock from Floatingpoint Instruments is designed to synchronise electronic musical instruments and computers to run perfectly in time, which is particularly important in electronic music, where timing and precision are crucial. As a central clock generator, it allows users to select the internal clock as well as audio-in, MIDI-in, USB-MIDI. and DIN-sync as clock sources. By converting a rhythmic audio signal from the DAW into a latency-free clock signal, Multiclock ensures extremely steady and reliable synchronisation. The device's additional features, including a built-in MIDI router and an analogue LFO with multiple waveforms, further expand its range of creative and practical applications.

Floatingpoint Instruments multiclock

Bridging analogue and digital

The Floatingpoint Instruments Multiclock provides a variety of connection options, including USB, MIDI DIN, and an analogue 6.3mm jack socket, with its outputs comprising MIDI DIN and, on channel 1, a jack output for either an analogue sync signal or the integrated LFO. Operation is simple and intuitive: Individual channel strips with rotary controls and buttons are complemented by a clear display and an endless rotary control with push function for menu navigation, providing precise timing and rhythm settings for each connected device. With the Shift knob, the clock signal of a channel is offset within a range of +/-300ms, while the Shuffle knob adds swing to the rhythm, giving rigid patterns sound more of a syncopated groove.

Like Swiss clockwork

Anyone who has ever struggled with MIDI clock issues when working with a DAW will quickly appreciate Floatingpoint Instruments' Multiclock, which enables reliable synchronisation between devices of different generations, making it much more than just a simple clock generator. Its robust design, smooth operation, and broad compatibility with almost any operating system and DAW make it a reliable tool; on top of that, the built-in MIDI router means the device can function as the central hub for complex setups comprising both analogue and digital instruments, ensuring that MIDI data can be routed and mixed with precise timing. The Floatingpoint Instruments Multiclock will quickly become an indispensable companion for musicians and producers who rely on accurate MIDI synchronisation.

About Floatingpoint Instruments

Floatingpoint Instruments is dedicated to developing high-quality devices for synchronising electronic music hardware and software. Their flagship product is the multiclock, a clock generator that the Berlin-based company continues to manufacture after the original producer, E-RM, ceased operations. One of Floatingpoint's founders, Sebastian Preller, developed the multiclock's software for E-RM, ensuring continuity and expertise. Floatingpoint also provides servicing for multiclock units produced under the E-RM label. The company plans to expand its offerings with digital devices and systems designed to interface with analogue equipment, such as Eurorack modules.

A matter of timing

The Multiclock from Floatingpoint Instruments allows for precise synchronisation of drum machines, groove boxes, sequencers, arpeggiators and other effects devices using stable clock signals. Thanks to the ability to compensate for the latency of each channel and perform individual timing adjustments, numerous devices can be seamlessly integrated into the creative process. In the studio or during live performances, the Multiclock consistently delivers reliable and accurate timing, backed up by its emergency mode ("Free Wheel"), enabling devices to continue operating even if the computer crashes. A plugin is required for communication with a DAW, which can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website in VST, AU and AAX formats; users can also access a sync sample to create custom sync tracks, as well as a ready-to-use MIDI clip to trigger the sample.

Mr
A must have for synth freaks
Manu riga 07.10.2025
years of frustrations past by . many synths but a nightmare to get them all play nicely in sync together. No mac or Pc , no daw or any decend settings could fix the problem of sync. Then i read about this device and saw some videos about it. First of all its not cheap but worth every penny of it. It uses an audio output of your soundcard to send a pulse wave to the multiclock , there audio is always prioritized by computers its a more stable an reliable method to sync synthesizers.
on top you can add swing , program some cc controllers and stop start the sequencer of your synths. It has only four outs but with some midi thru you can really fix your sync issues.

my advice buy it today !!! thank me later

Super tight clocking is accurate with this device but Do not be lured into thinking that this will work with your DAW OF CHOICE. Yes i have seen all the video's......but when i tried it with my set up..... i encountered too many problems. However when i have it hooked up to my outboard gear they are absolutely NO Issues. My experience....just saying!!!
