Size does matter

Just started thumb picking through Tommy Emmanuel's course.
So, I bought cheap HB acoustic, fancy Martin strings and few thumb picks. Pros: Geipel is available in different sizes and materials. It has measurement in mm shown, so you can check your thumb with ruler to make sure it will fit nice, and this is big deal for online buying. It is very ergonomic and gentle to strings. I was thinking I will hate bronze touching steel strings, but it gives some special character to guitar sound - sharp open sound similar to nail strum. Cons: Only problem I see is that it's not elastic. But I broke few elastic ones trying to unroll them some more for my large thumb :) so maybe it is not con at all. If you have issues with regular ones try these, it my turn to be your favorite or your special ones.

I have no real idea what my thumb size number is. Like another reviewer, I had to take a guess and went for 6. It appears to fit my thumb quite comfortably, so perhaps this is right. I then decided to bend a small piece of copper wire around my thumb, then cut the wire so that it gives the circumference at the point across the bottom of the nail. I then straightened the wire and measured it to be 62mm. This may hopefully help someone who also has no knowledge of size numbers. The bronze used to make this pick appears to be B8 (see cymbals) which is about the hardest bronze (but nothing like as hard as nickel-silver). It is a right handed thumb pick only.

A matter of personal taste...

I think bronze gives a better sound than a plastic pick, and it sure looks like it will last a lot longer!
