a
Fun hybrid instrument that is hard to put down.
The Gold Tone A6 Mando Guitar is a hybrid instrument. It has a sound of it's own. Not quite mandolin and definitely not guitar. Purists might not like the sound, but as I already play quite a bit of mandolin, I wasn't looking for an instrument to mimic something that I already have.
Having a background in wind instruments, I have gradually been trying to learn some stringed instruments - mainly mandolin. I find acoustic guitars big and clunky - something that you almost have to drape your body over. The Mando Guitar is basically the same size as a mandolin, but with a slightly thicker body, compared to A style mandolins. Very comfortable for learning the standard guitar tuning.
For guitar players that have little or no mandolin experience, while the chord fingerings are the same as a guitar, it may prove to be a bit of a challenge to fit your fingers within the fret spacing, as there is less room. It should be possible with some practice, but using simplified chords could also work.
All in all, I am quite satisfied with this product.
