Better than grover
DickPuound 06.07.2021
I also have a Grover version, this ones feel sturdier and of better quality. Also locking knob is clockwise in Gotoh, as any other screw while Grover makes it counter clockwise which is not intuitive at all.

Very nice tuners!

Very good tuners!

I used these tuners on Fender modern player+ telecaster, to replace original vintage tuners. No modification of the guitar head stock was necessary and they fit nicely. I decided to replace the original tuners with Gotoh tuners, because, I was not the fan of vintage style tuners reason being the cumbersome string replacement. Also it seemed that they do not hold tuning very well. The main idea for me to buy telecaster was that it is a very simple design guitar and I was hoping that it would make this guitar easy to maintain, change strings, and tuning would be stable. But the original tuners didn't manage to do it very well.

The locking tuners, allow very convenient string replacement and also provide good string tuning stability. The only drawback for me is that one of the tuners seem to be not very responsive for tuning. It seems that sometimes by turning it slowly it somehow does not increase pitch, but then it overshoots a little bit. With little iterative adjustments though, the string can be tuned eventually. I This is just small inconvenience and overall they are huge improvement over original tuners.

Waste of money
Nick Naime 07.10.2026
Playing guitar for over 50 years, repairing and modifying them on and off for just as long. Remember Gotoh as a decent brand, but these are by far the worst machine heads I've ever encountered. When tuning, if you 'over shoot' , you turn it down again and then try again going upwards; that's normal. What is not normal is that these -all six of them- have play in them as much as nearly half a turn. That's nearly unworkable. Bought them to upgrade a Benton VT strat of 126 euro, but this is a downgrade: the originals were better if worth nothing themselves.
Then the term 'locking tuners'. That's misleading. I've never ever had isssues string up guitars -all types- and thought they'd lock the gears, which makes sense on a strat with a tremolo. But these just lock the strings inside the post, which is a solution to a completely non-existent issue. Complete waste of money. Don't buy.
The single star is because giving none isn't possible.
Package was delivered fine though, so not Thomann's fault.

Perfect fit
Pmusicman 27.12.2020
Fit my Eric Clapton strat without a problem, no extra drilling required. I can even do away with my string tree with these installed. I am very pleased with the quality. No brainer upgrade for your vintage style tuners.
