extremely useful, very well built but a bit too expensive
i know it's an excessive simplification, but basically the "useful" part of the strings is everything between the nut and the bridge. the string segments between the tuners and the nut can be used for some 0/1 bending effect - but for the rest are basically a potential source of rattles and unwanted vibrations.
here come the string dampeners - of course they can be used in various positions, but the most common is behind the nut.
every absorbing material can be used as a dampener. hair bands, strips of tissue or soft paper... but they're all temporary, ugly, not really effective and quite graceless solutions.
the gruvgear string dampeners fit perfectly (they come in 3 sizes but can be easily adapted anyway), are absolutely effective and are easy and fast to adjust.
the only downside is the price - but they're worth it.

Great for tapping, not for much else.
If you're looking at this item you know what it does! The quality of this item is great but it doesn't quite give the results I was looking for.
As a string mute on the board for tapping etc it works great, but I was hoping it would work as a harmonic mute when wrapped around the nut, ala Keith Merrow and other endorsed artists. It definitely works a little for me like this but not to the extent I'd imagined.
Still happy to have this item in my arsenal but not entirely what I expected.

Great!
i got these for my 7-string guitars and 5-string bases. They are great at elimination unwanted noice. I think that they could have done the velcro a bit more robust though. It does fall of some times witch is quit anoying.

Rather good
They do exactly what they're meant to really, I wouldn't buy them again, as they don't work too well over a locking nut, however on my guitars that have no locking nut they're fantastic. They are very easy to use, fit my 6, 7s and 8 strings. I would recommend highly.
