What a great guitar!
Had been thinking about getting one o tee for a whi o,since eating the cheaper EX’76 back last year.Up until now,I’ve always chosen other styles, and putting the EX’84 on the back burner,it had only been a few weeks since getting the SC550ii gotoh, when the EX84 is in the 25 year mk11 sale,so after asking my wife nicely,I was given permission to pull the trigger.
It arrived 6 days later (and I’m like a child at Christmas),and after unboxing it,and close inspection,I can say that I was very pleased with it,as there wasn’t the slightest sign of a blemish etc…
Next was to plug it into the tube 15 amp,and have a noodle.Suprisingly, the clean tones from the EMG pickups was pretty good, and with some distortion/gain,it was really singing, and perfect for heavy rock/metal,which is what I tend to play mostly.
The only slight disappointment is the neck profile, advertised as “slim taper C”,which it certainly is not.Luckily for me,my hands aren’t too small, ut someone with small hands are going to be dissapointed, most likely.
The action was good out of the box, frets are perfect, tuners work as they should, all in all,a great fun guitar to add to me collection.
Thanks very much Thomann/Harley Benton!

An overall dream to own. with a caveat.
I will say this, the guitar did not arrive to me in the best playing condition,. Tuning stability was awful, but was rectified after some work to the nut fixed that. Not all the string slots were cut to the proper depths or a proper angle, the electronics needed work, and the overall setup needed some work. HOWEVER... given that, this guitar cost me less than $400 after shipping to the USA. Even with the extra labor I had to put in, IS TOTALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY! The finish, the EMG pickups and the overall vibe of the guitar make this a Hetfield fan's wet dream... The bones of this guitar are there and there are no build issues that will permanently inhibit the playability of this guitar. All the issues I faced with this guitar are the same types of issues that all brands suffer from in QC at this price range with varying degrees of severity. Do not pass up the steal that this axe is, especially if you are lefty who is literally at a loss to find guitars in this style. do it! buy it now!
