Powerful two-channel combo with reverb

Harley Benton's guitar amps, which come in many sizes, have long been known for their quality and bargain prices. The powerful HB-80R guitar combo is no exception. Its two foot-switchable channels, integrated spring reverb, high-performance 80-watt power stage, and 12-inch Celestion speaker as well as a host of useful connection options make it perfectly suited not only to home use but to the rehearsal studio and stage as well. Power is supplied via a standard IEC cable, which allows different cables to be used and thus provides increased flexibility.

Robust and easy to operate

A sturdy enclosure with reinforced corners fully protects the HB-80R and its four rubber feet ensure it remains stable at all times. The operation of the two channels on the HB-80R’s front panel is very clearly laid out. Both channels have their own three-band EQ as well as separate gain and volume controls. In addition, Channel 1 also features a Voice control that provides even greater tonal variety. A shared reverb provides a pleasant ambiance to the sound – and those who wish to plug in their favourite pedals will also find an integrated effects loop on the amp's rear panel. An output for an external 8-Ohm speaker, a headphone output, a Line Out, and an AUX input for integrating external signals complete this neatly designed, high-performance guitar combo.

Universal guitar combo

Thanks to its two fully-independent channels and tube-emulating circuit, the sound spectrum of the HB-80R ranges from crystal-clear and punchy on the clean channel to distorted crunch and high-gain thunder on the overdrive channel. Together, the high-performance 80-watt power stage and the Celestion speaker provide a surprisingly high output volume. Don’t let looks fool you: This amp can be used without hesitation on stage. And should more power still be required, the rear panel includes an output for an external speaker. Practice comes before gigging however – and for that the AUX input allows you to play along to your favourite tracks. And you can do so discreetly, if you so wish, using the integrated headphone output.

Capable, controlled and loud.
Gain_Badger 16.11.2014
Clean sounds are clean with a little break up when played hard. The gain is usable up to some extreme levels and the tone controls actually have a meaningful effect.
The tank reverb is very, well, reverb-y indeed.
Sound wise, positioning plays a part. Being open backed means it is a little more sensitive to its surroundings. A beer crate or amp stand to get it off the floor tightens the overall sound. Being close to a wall or rear reflective surface brings the bass in and makes the sound more 'middy'.
The effects loop is quiet in operation. A footswitch is highly recommended to go between the two, very different, clean sounds and to switch channel 2 gain in and out.
I use it with a g112 extension cab to widen and reinforce the sound, both on stands, and the volume levels it can attain without tizzy breakup are more than loud enough. Need to go louder?, mic through the PA and get a monitor. Using a monitor is made easy with the line-out.
The mp3 player input makes practising along to your tunes easy.
Construction wise, all is not well cosmetically. I could play a game of 'find the screw that is actually seated in its cup' for a long time before finding one. The strap doesn't inspire confidence, the covering is thin but well applied. It is built well enough, that is all that matters construction wise.
Sound wise it is loud and clear, takes pedals well and doesn't fizz. Good small gig amp for the poor of pocket with a cab added. Gets very loud for home.
In terms of reliability, I haven't had it long enough yet. I do know that after an hours set, running into the cab at 2/3 - 3/4 volume (Using perhaps 20 watts, more than loud enough! ), the top surface and metalwork warm up but there has been no deterioration in sound. Quite the opposite as the speaker cones have loosened up over time.
May be too loud for home use without headphones but for rehearsal and first tentative gigs in too many years ( Ye Olde Krusten Headbanger ) it has proven itself highly capable and gets comments like 'Cracking good sound you've got there'

Für 129.- € ein echt geniales Teil
ntzs 26.04.2012

Daumen hoch an Thomann!
