Notched, but not straight

Referenced to a granite surface plate the short-scale side was concave (ends touch but space in between) and the long-scale was convex (middle ends rock back and forth about the centre). Edge doesn't seem to have been ground at all.
No specifications for flatness are advertised so can only blame myself.
