Jack of three trades, master of none

The idea is amazing. A strap lock, a pick holder and a cable holder all in once, it's really smart! Having it all located in a convenient location on the guitar is great.

However, the actual handling of it is awkward at best, as the SmartLock is not particularly good at any of the 3 things:

- The strap lock is really tight. I have a very basic Fender strap which is not crazy thick and pretty standard Squier strap holders and at first I didn't think they would even fit on. Some application of violence later I got it on and well it is really tight now.

- The pick holder is fairly small. It holds a flat 0.73 pick comfortably, a similar pure tone can be squeezed in, with some force you can make a 1.5mm pick just about fit. Forget anything wider.

- Getting a cable into the cable holder is really fiddly, you need to bend the holder dangerously far and the strap lock is in the way. Once the cable is inside it's good, but the process is so tedious that it's not worth the hassle when changing guitars. Bummer.

Everything about it feels sort like you'll break it because you always need to bend and squeeze it hard, so I'd say 2 stars. However given it is very affordable and there's two in one package 3 stars.

I think there's the idea of a good product in here. Make the pick holder bigger and add a plastic spring (like the Dunlop one), give the cable holder a separate locking mechanism from the strap lock and make the strap lock hole bigger but rubberized for a bit more money and it would be fantastic.

Cheap, not the best

I find them a little bigger than they need to be. Comparing to similar ones from D'Addario these are bulkier. They have pick holder which is nice, but the size is a bit annoying

You get what you pay but still better than tangling your cable through your strap and guitar
I like cheap gears with good sound 02.03.2024
I have to admit that since I am using strap locks normally for my main gear, I bought this product to fill the free delivery quota and I am using them with my side gear. For now the SmartLock works well but it feels a bit delicate, I don't know when it will be broke. But hey, this is cheap and worth giving it a go at least to understand if this kind of product is the right solution for you. Still better than tangling your cable through your strap and guitar :)

Cheap device that works but sadly not with Thomann's own
JAErhard 23.10.2025
It works nicely with my old Washburn Axxess XS-6 with a H-B Guitar Strap Padded Black (22.90 now, 19.90 back then :D).

Nice!

But then I tried it with the H-B SC-400 SBK Classic with a Thomann Nylonstrap. Nope, can't get the thing over the strap button. It fits without the strap, but quite snuggly, and with the leather end of the strap fixed to the button, it doesn't anymore. :-(

Quite disappointed that a Harley-Benton tool doesn't fit with a full H-B (and Thomann) setup.

But then again, I'm not really _surprised_ much, as I had just before this order decided against a Daddario Auto Lock Strap Padded for strap button (or, cheap strap buttons on the H-B instruments) reasons.

Does the job
Lemwon 19.05.2025
The straplocks do their job very well. They do not just fall of and actually hold the strap really really well. They do however break quite easily if you're not surgically careful with them. They might actually be more fragile than some ribbon microphones.

Quality aside, the pick holder is really useful and for that i still use them.
