Potentially great guitar
You watch youtubers saying “wow, perfectly set up”, “amazing setup”, “absolute fantastic out of the factory”. Then you go to the website, read the specs (which are actually very good), and you buy.
The guitar arrives, looks good, weights not much. Cool. You happy. Not?
GOOD
Well made
- good wood
- very nice finish
- great fretwork - I mean it, and I am very picky - leveled, polished, without any sharp edges
- Ibanez-style heal contour - extremely comfortable
- satin finish on neck
Very good first impression. You happy
NOT SO GOOD
You plug the guitar, tune, try to play, and:
- guitar was intonated properly(!), but…
- strings are flying 5 millimeters above the fretboard (you have to lower them and re-intonate)
- pickups are horrible, they sound dry and harsh
- neck is fat, feels like baseball bat (some may like it)
You not happy.
CONCLUSION
Potentially very good guitar. Good wood, very good finish, good electronics (nothing scratchy, split coils is great addition). Extremely cheap as for the above.
Just prepare yourself to the need of setting it up, and potentially replacing the pickups (I bought very cheap set of GOTOH pickups here from Thomann and replaced the original one. Huge difference, the guitar become live instantly).
Oh, a note for aesthetes - I bought the “desert sand” finish, expecting something like Sahara in color, but it is more “dirty orangish”, closer to pale salmon than desert sand.
