Harley Benton Ultimate Drive

To me it doesn't sound anything like an overdrive pedal, it is much closer to a distortion sound.
Too much gain wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that the controls are too sensitive and reaching the "sweet spot" for a high gain sound was very difficult in my experience.
The sound gets very dark as you turn the gain up and it's not easy to compensate for it with a tone knob the only affects the highs without cutting the lows

I bought it together with a Harley Benton Vintage overdrive (Which sounds amazing for the price). However, this sounds horrible. It was recommended to me by Thomann, and it causes a lot of buzz in my amp speakers. I think it may be a defect one. I sent it back to Thomann and kept the Vintage overdrive instead.

This is a really good sounding drive pedal, whether you use it as a level boost or use the gain on the pedal itself it has quite a tonal range and can be tweaked to find a nice sound. Having never played the pedal it is based on I couldn't commend on how they compare, but in its own right its a nice pedal. I have had a few reliability issues; my first was replaced due to faulty input and my second had a loose ac input, but the latter was easily fixed. Thomann were superb in replacing the first.
