Harry Hartmann Fiberreed Onyx Tenor M

I have been playing the saxophone for over 25 years and have always used traditional reeds. I have looked at fibre reeds many times, but have always been doubtful. I decided, however, to give this one a go after reading many reviews about it.
I have to say that I am very impressed with the sound of the reed. I play on a metal otto link 8* mouthpiece and this reed helps perfectly to produce the warm sound that I like best.
I think that the price is reasonable for a long-lasting reed. The only reason why I gave 4 stars for 'quality' is because I have had to shave the sides of the reed down as it persistently cut my bottom lip in the start (there's lots about this on the net).
Else a really great, robust reed with a very full and round sound.

After so many years playing a cane reed I have decided to try synthetic reeds. I was playing Vandoren Java 3. I ordered two reeds. The Fiberreed Onyx size M and also Legere - 2,5. Both are easy blowing but the Onyx plays the Low range and the altissimo range much easier. It has a dark sound - not as dark as the Legere. On the other hand if you push it it has much more power and edge. It is perfect if you have to play quieter and every once in a while to cut through the sound of the band for a solo. I am very satisfied with the reed.

Ich spiele seit ca. 25 Jahren Tenorsax und bin vor Jahren auf Kunststoffblätter umgestiegen. Kaufte das Blatt zum Ausprobieren und es hat mich überzeugt. Gute Ansprache. Klingt gut, wenn auch etwas scharf. War beim ersten Test etwas schwer in der Ansprache und auch die Tiefen waren zwar gut klingend aber eben etwas schwer zu spielen (vor allem bei schnellem Wechsel von den hohen in die tiefsten Lagen). Alles in allem war die Stärke M also etwas zu hart für mich. Ist ja auch bei herkömmlichen Blättern nicht so, dass man genau die richtige Blattstärke trifft. Die hundertprozentig passende Blattstärke gibt´s meiner Meinung nach sowieso bei keinem Blatt "right from the Box". Da das Blatt aber mit Sandpapier entsprechend einem normalen Blatt bearbeitet werden kann, ist die Anpassung kein Problem. Die Bearbeitung hat das Blatt jetzt gut spielbar gemacht und auch den Sound positiv beeinflusst. Passt jetzt einwandfrei. Werde mir das nächste Mal die Stärke MS zulegen. Ich bin der festen Überzeugung dass das dann die richtige Stärke für mich sein wird. Wenn immer noch zu hart, dann etwas Feilen und es wird passend gemacht. Meiner Meinung nach ist die Möglichkeit der Bearbeitung der große Vorteil zu anderen Kunststoffblättern auf dem Markt. Ich werde jedenfalls von Fibracell auf Fiberreed umsteigen. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis (insbesondere beim Onyx) ist im Vergleich zu anderen Kunststoffblättern sehr gut.
Noch was zur Info! Die Haptik beim Spielen im Mund ist etwas anders als beim Holzblatt. Die Blattseiten und die Spitze fühlt sich etwas schärfer an. Das ist zumindest am Anfang ungewohnt und die Lippen können schmerzen, gegebenenfalls auch etwas wund werden. Nach einiger Spielzeit tritt jedoch der Gewöhnungseffekt ein und die Lippen werden "abgehärtet". Jetzt muss nur noch die Lebensdauer entsprechend passen. Um das zu Beurteilen habe ich das Blatt noch nicht lange genug. Bis jetzt alles ok.
Alles in Allem ein gelungenes Produkt und somit eine Kaufempfehlung von mir.
