Design and system integration

Measuring less than a foot across, the IK Multimedia iLoud Sub is among the smallest subwoofers in its class, making it easy to place under a desk or in tight studio layouts. A 200W Class D amplifier drives a 6.5" aluminium woofer supported by dual passive radiators, delivering controlled, well-defined low-frequency performance despite its minimal footprint. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs accommodate studio monitors and hi-fi systems, while rear-panel controls provide level adjustment and selectable crossover points at 50Hz or 80Hz. When ARC X calibration is engaged, crossover behaviour and low-frequency alignment are handled automatically. The USB connection allows calibration data to be written directly to the subwoofer's internal DSP and also functions as a stereo USB audio input at sample rates up to 96kHz – a useful option for minimalist setups.

Using the supplied measurement microphone and IK Multimedia's ARC X software, the system analyses the room during a one-time calibration process and uploads correction data directly to the subwoofer's internal DSP. This aligns the low-frequency response of the subwoofer – along with the phase and crossover behaviour of any connected satellite speakers – to the room, addressing common low-frequency issues without manual adjustment. Once calibration is complete, the IK Multimedia iLoud Sub operates independently, delivering a flatter, more reliable low end without requiring a computer, USB connection, or ongoing software processing.
