Good quality, good direct sound

Cabinets are always a personal choice, but this one so far is one of my favourite. (I play 4 string Fender Jazz and Sandberg fretless with Markbass Big Bang head) I play jazz, folk, pop, fusion...

Pros:
It's light and quite comfortable to carry.
It gives a nice direct sound and nice variety of high-end. Amazing low end performance, even though it's 2x10.
It's strong and good quality, you can easily put another cabinet on it and not worry about it.
Cons:
I would love it even more without the yellow speakers, but that's personal.
Handle is great, but it's only on one side, so you can't carry it with two handles.
Wouldn't use it for double bass, but maybe with a different head it would be another story.

While performing with this cabinet, take at least 3-5 meters from the amp to really hear the sound what it produces. Small gigs with this amp feel like you're really muddy but that's only a feeling.

H
Ridiculous amounts of sound from a cabinet of this size and weight!
Hankmeister 25.04.2022
I wanted an easily portable full range bass cab for bar type gigs. This cab has great clarity and plenty of umph. I’m using it with a TC BQ250, which has a reputation for being under powered, but the amount of noise this combination kicks out is simply ridiculous considering it’s size and weight!

The Markbass 102p has a less than sparkling reputation in some circles for a) having a really hissy tweeter and b) for the tweeter being harsh. In answer to this a) I’m getting no discernible hiss, even when I really wind up the high end on both my bass and amp, b) If you find the tweeter harsh, simply turn it down (I find somewhere about -9db to be my personal sweet spot).

The cab stays clean with everything I’ve thrown at it. TBH, I wouldn’t want to gig with it at anywhere near the volume I’ve tested it to, even with this relatively low powered amp (the cab can take 400watts). I can only conclude that those who’ve criticised this cab as being less than capable on the volume front are either deaf or have never heard of DIs and public address systems. I was considering getting a second unit if this one worked out, now I’m wondering if there would be any point other than to satisfy my vanity.

The cab is small and, most importantly, LIGHT! It sits nicely on the kickback stand I use for my guitar combo. One of these in each hand wouldn’t even make for decent dumbbells.

Now for another pleasant surprise: The delivery driver LITERALLY DROPPED THIS OVER A SIX FOOT GATE RATHER THAN RINGING THE NEIGHBOUR’S DOORBELL?????? Knowing how sensitive speaker baskets can be to violent shocks, I feared that it would be junk and fit only for immediate return to Thomann! Not, so! Works perfectly. A tribute to the design, construction, and packaging of this item. Not in any way a tribute to DHL, however!!!!

All in all I’m very pleased with this cabinet and I look forward to gigging it ASAP.

Perfect for the gigging musician
Simonwindisch 03.04.2016
First of all at 15kg this cab is insanely light, I can easily carry it with one hand and my Markbass combo amp in the other hand.
Secondly, the sound is very pure, but a little harsh, which I think is typical of 2x10 cabs. It has a dial for the tweeter, but I couldn't hear any difference between the maximum and minimum settings.
Thirdly it is rated 400W and it can go very loud. It vibrated my drink off the shelf it was sitting on just above the amp.
Fourthly, it can sit vertically or horizontally, and is very stable. The plastic corner pieces lock in with other Markbass cabs and amps. When it's vertical it's nice and high, nearer your ears when you are playing on a small stage, and it saves space on a small stage in that position too.
It looks tough, I'm sure it will last for years, although the grill is a bit "bouncy", which makes getting controlled feedback out of it via pressing the bass against the grill a bit tricky. I'm use to Trace Elliott sturdiness.
It has two Speakon sockets, so you can run it in series.
The only drawback is that it only has a carry handle at one end, which sometimes can make it a bit unwieldy to move around, although it is very light and only needs to be carried one-handed.

B
Excellent cab
BexB 24.05.2020
Buying this cab I got exactly what I wanted: sweet sound in a lightweight package. I bought it from Thomann together with TC Electronic BQ500 head as my first rig for home and band practice and occasional gigs, and the result is totally above my expectations. I feel I got everything I need. I'm playing in a 5-piece jazz combo, and with the amp at or slightly above half power this rig provides enough volume for small bars and restaurants where we play, and most of them have PA anyway.
Pros: Excellent sound, very light and compact, sturdy construction, twitter control.
Cons: None found
Bottom line: Excellent cab, slightly more expensive 2x10 than some other brands, but with its sound and weight it's totally worth the money in my opinion.
