As a professional percussionist with many instruments already, I didn't have high expectations; I've always been disappointed by products similar to this released by other manufacturers.
However, this is a great addition to any collection! The sound is obviously different to a regular Pandeiro but is very musical and highly usable. It's lightweight and well balanced. I've used it for a recording and was very happy with the results; a variation on a theme if you like. My only slight criticism is the placement of the lugs which are ok for playing in the horizontal position, but for playing in the vertical position they could have been better placed. The head was also slightly damaged, but I enjoy playing this so much that I can't be without it while I wait for a replacement. Highly recommended!

Das Meinl Shaker Pandeiro verbindet einen druckvollen, bassigen Fellsound mit „sandigen“ Shakersounds und stellt so eine neue Variante des klassischen Pandeiros dar.

Mit gut 400 Gramm ist es eher leichtgewichtig und liegt gut in der Hand, was ermüdungsfreies Spielen garantiert.

Allerdings wird der erfahrene Pandeirista seine Technik bzw. sein Mikro Timing etwas anpassen müssen, da die kleinen Shaker doch etwas anders ansprechen als die Metallschellen eines klassischen Pandeiros. Insgesamt scheint die Ansprache etwas mehr „laid back“ zu sein, und je nach Dynamik ist der Shakersound deutlich breiter und weniger definiert, als man das vielleicht von Metallschellen gewohnt ist.

Auch scheint der Dynamikumfang etwas begrenzter zu sein: während bei sehr leisem Spiel die Shaker ggf. gar nicht ansprechen, gibt es eine klare Lautstärkebegrenzung „nach oben“. Das liegt aber in der Natur dieses Intrumentes, welches wohl eher für dynamisch moderaten Kontext gemacht scheint.

Insgesamt ersetzt das Shaker Pandeiro nicht das klassische Pandeiro, sondern bietet eher eine interessante Alternative, wenn zwar Pandeiro gefragt ist, aber ein etwas diskreterer Sound gut passt.
