Great value

After years of not having a drumkit, i finally had space and cash to get something.

I decided on the mps-1000, the way i figured, its the newest set there for newest software and hardware, the kit looks great and it has the height of a normal drum kit meaning i would be able to use it comfortably at 2 meters tall.

It took a couple hours to unpack and assemble and right away i found the instruction manual to be lacking a little, however the online manual is more detailed and was able to provide enough instructions.

the hardware is average at best, when you try to adjust the cymbal booms for example you can really tell its not the best, it takes some "manhandling" to get it into position.

Right out of the box i ran into an issue where the toms weren't triggering, only on 1 very specific spot would the tom trigger, everywhere else would trigger the tom-rim, but this was easily resolved by doing a factory reset, So if anyone runs into this issue, try a factory reset.

The downside to buying such a recent kit is the lack of tutorials/information you can find online.

Now i've never owned a roland, so i cant compare it to those, my previous drumkit was a alesis DM6 and this is by far loads better.

I absolutely love the feel of the cymbals, the hi-hat is awesome, i find it responsive and dynamic.

I am very very happy with this purchase and cant wait to spend many many hours with my new kit!

Best on the market with a sensible price tag
Mamplin 27.12.2025
My Son was looking at this kit and I have to say I was very sceptical about the purchase to begin with . I watched lots of YouTube reviews then decided lets give it a go...

Well We have been totally BLOWN AWAY by this kit. Not only does it look amazing, it also sounds amazing. Yes it doesn't sound like a real acoustic kit but its pretty damn close with some tweaking, I've owned a Yamaha mid range electric kit and this blows it out of the water. We were so impressed with it we've even added the extra 16" floor tom which has made this kit an absolute beast of a kit and my son is the envy of all his friends .

The stock sounds are great , but he's created his own kit and to be honest just sticks with it. Everyone moans about lack of variety but lets face it, if you buy an acoustic kit , that's your one sound. If you find an electric kit sound you like , you're probably just going to keep that sound too for the majority of the time,. However least with an electric kit you have the option of different presets should you want them.

I can review things like the backing tracks etc as its not something we use at all , likewise we have not used the features for uploading your own sounds etc, but from reviews I've seen that all works great. You will need to adjust things like sensitivity etc for the High Hats and Toms etc but once done its perfect and responsive and never misses a beat. Ghost notes work great , blast beats etc and my Son has even added a Set of Tama Speed Cobra's with Cobra coils and the double pedal response is amazing.

I only have two Negatives with this kit and they are very minor.

1. The little plastic lugs that stop the Cymbals Spinning on their stands have broke on both Cymbals. These snapped within two weeks of purchase and literally within days of each other, However we super Glued them back on and they have not come off since.

2 . The cables the come with the wiring loom are set lengths. Because of this you can only place the module in a certain area as the cables do not reach if you put the module anywhere else. It would be nice if ALL the cables were made the same extra long length so that the module could be placed anywhere around the kit, ie even behind the drummer. the inclusion of cable ties is excellent but these would be more beneficial if the cables were longer.

Other than that there really is nothing to complain about with this kit. NO WHERE ELSE will you get a kit of this quality at this price point. It looks great , sounds great, plays great and the additional items are excellent. you could even run two modules and build a huge kit.

What would be lovely is if Millenium / Thomann could invent an electric cowbell or some electric rototoms etc to add further expansion. Also maybe a couple more colour options

If you are hesitating about Buying this kit..... Dont ! Buy it , you will not regret it. The Alternative is £6k on a roland, which lets face it unless your fully pro that's a hard cost to justify , and you can buy 6 of these for that.

For your average drummer or even like my son who belts out everything from death metal , black metal to zappa and parkway drive, this kit is plenty and does it all. We love it .

Amazing for the price

This drum kit is an absolute joy to use and looks and feels great, it is very well built and has lots of modern features including use of your own samples and the ability to connect your phone or tablet via bluetooth to play along with anything and everything. At this price point it's a no brainer and I have set a MIDI Map to run my Addictive drums whilst recording and the dynamic curves are faithful to my playing without any time consuming edits, what an amazing piece of technology, I love it !!!

Incredible Value

Primarily a guitarist, but trying to improve my drumming over the course of the pandemic I purchased an MPS-850 about a year ago. It was pretty good but I wanted a kit that felt real and not so cramped. This one way exceeded my expectations. Looks, feels, and plays like real drums.

Couple of caveats here: I replaced the heads with Drum-Tec Real Feels, and I am using Superior Drummer 3 for the sounds.

Compared to the MPS-850, you are given more control over how the drums respond; greater control over sensitivity and dynamics compared to the MPS-850. Nearly flawless. This is also a double edged sword. It took some hours of fiddling with the settings of the hi-hat (mechanically, in the module, and in SD3) to get it working correctly. Now that it is triggering reliably, I am loving it. The hardware is nice enough. The kick pedal is much improved from the 850. Some kick patterns that I was having trouble with on the old set are now easy to play. The cymbals are fantastic. The sounds from the module are lackluster, but they are definitely an upgrade from the MPS-850.

All in all, I am very pleased with this kit. I was considering going with a VAD, but I am now glad I chose the budget option. At this price it can't be beat. Doesn't feel like it is lacking at all in terms of utility.

Loving it
Steve Mo 03.06.2025
It only took nine working days for the kit to be delivered to Scotland and it arrived in perfect condition. The nice folk at Thoman also chucked in a free UK power adaptor.
I'd watched all of the YouTube stuff on setting it up so I was well prepared for what turned out to be a very simple task. Just be prepared for a mountain of cardboard and packing materials lol.
This kit for me is a huge upgrade from my old Yamaha DTExplorer and the upgrade is paying off. So much easier than hitting rubber pads and it does feel close to an acoustic kit. Some people have mentioned issues with the hi-hat but I've had none and I'm impressed with it's operation. The remaining components ie cymbals, drums and stands are all well made and doing the job.
The module is very user friendly and and easy to operate, editing user settings is very easy and the comprehensive manual is a great source of reference.
So is it worth the cash - hell yes. Am I a professional drummer - hell no but with this kit I'm having a great time trying to be one. Finally, thanks Thoman for the great communication and a swift delivery.

LE
Decent kit for price
Luke EarthWalker 07.05.2022
Lets see. I think for the price it is fine, but after having it for a while, I came to notice a couple of annoyances? which I will mention here, as there is enough reviews talking about the positives.

The hihat controler is not so good. I think it is decent when it works, but splashing the hihat is pretty much a guarantee. No matter how slowly I lift it, once it reaches the open value it splashes every time (at varying volumes), which is extremely annoying. I even set the velocity adjustment to the lowest value and it did not help in eliminating it. Why not use the tried and tested controller design I do not know, but I think the controller on MPS 850 felt better than this one. Hitting the half open sound can also be annoying, it seems to be quite a narrow window.

The snare pad misses hits. I dont know if it is playing too strong or a combination of head tuning along with strong hitting, but I notice the snare misses hits and produces no sound (mainly noticed this when practicing/performing flams, so take it as you will)

I will also mention, that the ride bell seems to be alternating bell and normal sound, even though the module still shows bell zone hit. So while the module can recognize you hit the bell twice, one sound will be bell and one regular ride sound. Have not tested with software, probably not a problem there.

The metronome is quite limited. I mean, I would expect at least basic quarter/eighth/sixteenth/32nd clicks present, these are the ones most used during regular practice. I would also expect triplet/sextuplet option. You can sort of fake it with 3/4 and 6/4 options but its not quite it. So if you prefer those clicks tough luck, only quarter note is really there. I also wish it would be easier to change metronome volume, you can only do it in the specific metronome menu, no quick and easy way to do it in the kit select screen. Maximum bpm setting is 240, if anyone is wondering.

Best ever choice for this price

*1. Please add in new firmware the option "Disable Bluetooth"
* SOLVED
Our engineer and I have added a mute button and volume control of Bluetooth to the front panel of the drum module

2. There is no way to save PAN for any PAD, even in new KIT with different name. Maybe this problem only in my drum module

3. Please add in new firmware the option "Assign any PAD to left or right channel of MASTER if this possible actually. It will increases 8 DIRECT OUTPUTS to 10

R
how did this pass quality assurance?
Rois 28.07.2023
Bought this drum set for a few reasons:
1. real size of pads and cymbals, with good reviews on the mesh heads.
2. module functionality - separate EQ per element and BT connectivity.
3. value for money for a flagship product, that is also stunningly beautiful.

upon arrival had a few issues with the kit.
a. cut of the exterior lining of the bass drum was probably done by someone drunk. it should not have passed QA and shipped to a costumer.
b. 40 kits but most of the sounds are truely nothing I will use to play with, and all low frequencies (bass drum, floor etc...) volume sounded very very low.
I had tried different headphones and a RCF ART amplifier, and had to manually reduce other elements (snare, cymbals, hh) to get a decent sound from bass and floor.
3. using it for a year, the module is randomly and sporadically shutting down. sometimes cant even play more than a minute before it switches off for no apparent reason.

cant express my disappointment from this experience.
expected more from a flag ship product.

A
Decent overall - Multiple quality control issues.
Adsam415 08.10.2025
Overall, this kit performs well for home practice. The sound samples are impressive — not the best I’ve ever heard, but still very good — and the module offers plenty of customization options, including the ability to upload your own samples.

The hi-hat works decently, though it requires quite a bit of tinkering to calibrate properly. Even then, it demands precise timing to register lifts correctly and can still miss them occasionally. The same goes for the ride cymbal, which sometimes fails to detect bell hits for no clear reason. This isn’t a major issue for casual home playing, but it would definitely be frustrating if you plan to record.

Unfortunately, the build quality has been disappointing. On delivery, the snare mesh head snapped immediately during tuning, and the sensor inside one of the tom pads detached from the mesh. A week later, part of the mechanism holding a cymbal also broke. Thomann have replaced the parts under warranty, but this shouldn’t happen with a new kit — especially one at this price point.

Honestly, it feels like a lot of the cost went into making the kit look like a real acoustic set, at the expense of durability and essential functionality. In hindsight, I’d recommend saving a bit more and going for a Roland or another more reliable alternative.

NA
A product that competes with international brands
Nasser Ahmed 13.03.2024
I cannot express myself. I did not expect drums to have these capabilities and to be able to compete with more famous international Companies and brands . Although many people have apprehension, I recommend them as they gave me a feeling as if I were playing with a real acoustic with a wonderful sound, although I have a comment on hi hat I did not understand what is wrong with it. Sometimes it needs to Adjust
