Anonymous 10.03.2017
We have screened all available multichannel audio interfaces for the best price per output channel (43 ¤ per channel). We were very lucky that it did turn out to be a MOTU ?

We use the device for multichannel 3D audio loudspeaker setups in combination with the MNTN 3D audio software. For this purpose, it's still not easy to find interfaces with enough output channels for a reasonable price.

For the audio quality, it's MOTU as we know it. No concerns for all the critical aspects. A minor thing is that it's hard to get started without taking a quick look at the manual. That's why we spend only four stars on usability. However, that's how we know MOTU devices, too. But still, it's almost plug-and-play.

A big plus is the possibility to combine up to 5 devices to end up with 120 output channels (=loudspeakers) from one single computer. The scalability not only counts for practical purposes, but also for the budget.

A minus: The ads on the MOTU product website did let us understand that the device could be connected to a Mac directly via ethernet cable. Until now, we couldn't figure out how that might work. However, USB works fine or course.

Here is an article comparing other multichannel audio interfaces to connect a bunch of loudspeakers to you computer: https://mntn.rocks/news/2016/06/16/how-you-connect-a-bunch-of-loudspeakers-to-your-computer

64 in/out routable sur usb au final, enfin
