Probably the best budget midi controller

wbean, 08.01.2019
I was about to purchase an m-audio keystation, but cancelled my order just as these controllers came onto the market. I have absolutely not regrets as these are incredible value for money. They have the best keybed of any entry level controller of this size and the build quality is excellent. I would 100% recommend the Komplete Kontrol A series to anyone considering them. Only downside to me is the lack of a midi out, but that can be remedied with a usb midi host which can be purchased from thomann as well. Note that the setup is a little tricky with Native access and the komplete Kontrol software, but nothing a few youtube videos won't help you with

Solid work tool

Dragon60, 12.12.2018
The keyboards of the A-Series were obviously developed by Native Instruments under the premise "Concentration on the essential" and this may be described as successful. The hardware makes a very solid impression, the keyboard is not "cheap". The OLED display is easy to read despite the small size and fulfills its purpose. The buttons have to be pressed a little harder and are something? Clicky ?. After a successful firmware update and installation of the Komplete Kontrol software, you can start right away. I recommend downloading the DAW A-Series Shortcut Sheet pdf from the NI homepage. Here you will find all key combinations for the programs Logic Pro X, Garage Band, Ableton and Machine very clearly presented.

The keyboard feels very good. With a pleasant pressure point, expressive play does not stand in the way. Aftertouch is not available, nor is it possible, as with the S-series, to select different dynamic characteristics. Hopefully, NI will fix this in a future update. The estimated by the S-series LED bar is also missing.

Speaking of Ableton Live. In Live 9 is the control of the DAW ie scenes start / stop selecting etc not possible, Live 10 users may be lucky. Whether Ableton refills here remains to be seen. The same goes for Cubase. I run the keyboard in Logic Pro X and everything works fine here. Even nks-compatible plug-ins can be controlled very comfortably with the controller. Who bothers to patch over the option? Save as? save as nks file, this can also on Komplete Kontrol and thus on the keyboard load and edit. One must
stop just giving up the Vorhörenfunktion. The comfortable handling and the overview of the sound library is just awesome. The operation of the keyboard is learned quickly and from then on
it's only about the essential: composing, arranging
Prodzieren.

All in all, the keyboards of the A-series are a clear buy recommendation. Who can afford S-class? ;-)
Slight deduction is due to the (not yet) available integration in Live 9 and Cubase and the lack of dynamic characteristics. Anyone who can do without large OLED displays and LED's will be happy here. The price-performance ratio is top.
