Paiste comes crashing through!
Dr Brian 23.05.2015
I recently bought the Paiste 2002 classic 18" crash cymbal after shopping around. I needed something that was durable, not too bright but could cut through a band or orchestra. Given that I required a crash cymbal that was versatile enough for a variety of environments I wanted to expand my horizons when it came to choice. Having listened and auditioned many cymbals on Thomann's excellent web site I decided to try Paiste, after all, if they're good enough for Jeff Porcaro, Right!!!!
I was not disappointed. The first outing for my new 18" crash was on a performance of Hairspray the musical in a 1,200 seat theatre. The feel from the pit was so good. When I needed a big sound with sustain that punctuated without overpowering the vocals, it was there. The rich tone it has, sounded so right within the band giving an extra layer to the overall balance. The feedback from the sound engineer and other musicians who were front of house was very positive. The next setting was with an ABBA tribute show, smaller venue and working with a 4 piece band, vocals and tracks. This work for me is all about creating the sonic feel of the original recordings so i'm quite particular with my choice of cymbals and drums. Again, I was so impressed with Paiste - attack and sustain were just enough and the overall timbre blended seamlessly with the music. My next test for the '2002 Classic' will be with Broadway and West End star Rachel Tucker in July. Again, a different ensemble line up and performance demands will be required. However, I am confident the Paiste 2002 Classic 18" Crash cymbal will come 'Crashing Through' for me. Watch This Space!!!!

I got this and a 2002 16" Medium as my first set of crashes. Couldn't have made a better choice.

This is the classic rock crash. You hit it and you can just hear any number of Led Zeppelin, The Police and Deep Purple tracks. It's a really well-blanced sounding cymbal, ideal for several styles from blues to metal. You can't go wrong with this and you can rarely go wrong with Paiste.

Simply beautiful

I bought this cymbal some time ago, so had enough time to try it out and I can't be happier with this purchase. The sound is amazing, definitely worth it. The cymbal has a beautiful clear tone, it can be used for pretty much any music genre.
