I build drums. I bought these for a tom I built. These hoops are very similar to most cast hoops in that they do the job. The pearl in my opinion having used these as well as the Tama equivalents are excellent. I can't say one is better than the other as they are both superb quality. If I was to compare them to the Gibraltar/Gretsch hoops I would have to say that these are in a different league. These have a soft feel to the touch due to the quality of the plating with no rough edges. Tama seem to be slightly better finished. They have slightly more pronounced fillet radii and a slightly better overall polish than anything else I have used. I couldn't decide between the two as to which is better, both the Tama and Pearl hoops are superb. Spend the extra couple of Euros rather than settle for second best
