Unleash the Dragon!
With the PRS SE Chleo Herman Li, Paul Reed Smith has built a signature guitar with a clear focus on high-speed playing styles – although the Chleo offers far more than a typical Metal axe. Developed in close collaboration with DragonForce guitarist Herman Li, this guitar delivers exactly the things the virtuoso soloist is famous for – blazing-fast licks, exceptional definition, and flawless intonation. The mahogany body with its maple top provides a balanced tonal foundation with nice tight lows and very present mids, while the ebony fingerboard and bolt-on maple neck add crisp attack and brilliant highs. PRS has combined traditional tonewoods with a modern, aggressive Charcoal Purple Burst finish, and despite its sophisticated electronics, the result is perfectly set up for use on-stage. Whether it's Power Metal, Fusion, or straight-up Shred, the PRS Chleo makes a clear statement in terms of precision, stability, and sheer playing enjoyment.
Omniforce – the power within
The heart of the PRS Chleo are its Fluence Omniforce pickups, developed by Herman Li in collaboration with Fishman. The three-pickup config offer two distinctly different sonic worlds. Using the push/pull function on the volume control, musicians can instantly switch between the Modern Active and Passive Organic voices: The former delivers the powerful, harmonic-rich sound commonly associated with modern Metal productions, while remaining exceptionally clear and defined. The second voice is, despite its name, also active, but rounder, warmer and more dynamic, making it ideal for Blues or Classic Rock tones. The push/pull function on the tone control, in turn, activates coil splits for the two humbuckers. Combined with the five-way switch, this opens up an impressive range of sounds, from glassy single-coil tones and dynamic crunch through to singing lead voices. The middle single-coil pickup has been specifically voiced to blend seamlessly into either world, whether for clean passages or Fusion-inspired licks.
Tone and technique combined
The PRS SE Chleo Herman Li OD has been designed for musicians who refuse to accept a guitar with limitations, both in terms of how it's played and the tone it makes. Thanks to its extremely flat 20" fingerboard radius, 24 frets, and ergonomically shaped maple neck, the guitar feels effortlessly smooth to play, making it perfectly suited to modern techniques such as high-speed runs, tapping and sweep picking. At the same time, the two active voicings that the Fishman electronics are capable of ensure enormous tonal flexibility and complete authenticity, from crystal-clear cleans to aggressive high-gain sounds. But the Chleo isn't aimed solely at Metal shredders – studio guitarists and live players looking for an instrument with an exceptionally flexible tone will find plenty to appreciate here as well. With its Floyd Rose 1000 vibrato, PRS tuners and PRS nut, the Chleo delivers reliability across the board.
About Paul Reed Smith Guitars
Paul Reed Smith Guitars is an American manufacturer of top-of-the-range electric guitars. Based in Stevensville, Maryland, the company was founded in 1985 by Paul Reed Smith, who had already been making guitars on his own since the mid-1970s as part of his music degree. PRS Guitars owes its breakthrough to guitar legend Carlos Santana, who liked the guitars so much that he soon ordered custom-made instruments from the firm. Since then, the product range has grown to include basses, acoustic guitars, and amplifiers. The list of PRS artists is abundant with big names: John Mayer, Mark Tremonti, Alex Lifeson, and Mark Holcomb are just a handful of the signature artists who testify to the quality of PRS instruments.
Powerful tone and reliable performance
In the studio, the PRS Chleo Herman Li reveals just how versatile it really is. The Fishman pickups deliver noise-free tones with excellent dynamics and impressive clarity, even under extreme gain. The push/pull functions make it possible to switch sounds in an instant, which is ideal for layering parts or moving between different sections of a song. On stage, it impresses with outstanding tuning stability and the kind of presence needed to cut through dense mixes. The Floyd Rose can handle even intense dive-bombs, while the locking tuners make string changes quick and straightforward. The guitar reaches its full potential played through traditional valve amps, but is so transparent and well defined that modelling amplifiers and IR-based rigs are as well. Whether it's in the hands of shredders, progressive players, or more technically minded soloists, the PRS SE Chleo Herman Li isn't simply another PRS signature model. It's a purpose-built instrument with a character all its own. At this price point, it's only natural that it arrives complete with a matching gig bag.
