Pyramid Gold Flatwound 040-100

I am very disappointed with these Pyramid Gold strings and cannot recommend them. The 4th string sounds incredibly dull and is much quieter than the rest, while the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings sound loud and clear. These don't fit the Harley Benton Beat Bass properly because the silk winding sits on the nut and extends over the fretboard, though this doesn't affect the sound for 1-3 strings. The 1st and 3rd strings feel rough to the touch while the 2nd and 4th are smooth. For this price, the quality control is just not there.

I bought these specifically for the beat bass as the description said they were suitable, however the green silk at the end of the string doesn’t reach past the nut. I had to trim the silk in order to fit them and as a result the E string isn’t sounding right. It has some harmonic overtones that make it unusable. Thomann sorted me with a refund but it’s still disappointing for such expensive strings!

The A, D & G strings do sound fantastic though, that real smooth thump you’d expect from flat wounds
