Rode M 1
Mattie 25.01.2015
Bought this Mic a few weeks ago as I do a large amount of singing, I seen it advertised on Thomann at around £30 less than the industry standard SM58.

I am currently building a home studio so cost is a massive issue, after reading a few of the reviews I decided to risk it and go for the Rode M1 instead of the sure SM58 & I have to say I am really glad I did.

The sound quality was crystal clear and really smooth in comparison to the sm58 which I also have used and initially set out to buy, would have to say in my opinion save yourself the extra few quid and go for the M1 as the quality both in build quality and sound is on par if not better!!!

Regards Mattie

BR
works great
Barry R. 13.02.2016
in the church i attend we were having problems with mics suiting our lead male vocalists. we tried many different mics including the well known industry standard mics. after reading up on this mic i thought i would give it a go. the Rode M1 has worked a dream for what we need. its replicates the vocals well, has great feedback rejection and it is built well. and the price is competitive too.

L
Nice mic for background singers
LoTone 17.08.2014
I am no real vocalist. I just sing some background voices in our band or sometimes a single song. And my voice is rather weak and more on the low end.
My experience with the classic live mic (Sh... SM...) was that I did not hear me at all. It seems as if it only works if the singer is shouting loud in a quite high voice.
So I had to find an alternative and I tried several entry-level mics from Sennheiser, Shure, Beyerdynamics, AKG, Samson, ... I kept some of them. Some were sold again. Some worked fine.
But after reading some recommendations for the Rode M1 I gave it also a try. And what should I say? It's great!
It produces a nice clear sound that is easy to identify in a whole mix. I still have to tweak the EQ to reduce the bass because of the proximity effect. But other frequencies can be left flat.
I have no noticable problems with feedbacks even though my voice is not that loud.
For me this mic is a great value for the money.

Good Value - Good Quality
DaveAGT 10.03.2014
I really can't fault this mic. It seems to suit male and female vocals equally well and has good feedback rejection. I'm using two M1 mics in a male / female duo and the mics give a really nice smooth sound to both voices.

I can't say how good the M1 might be at punching through in a heavy rock mix which is where the SM58 excels, but since getting the M1 my own 58 is now carried as a spare.
.
The mic is very well made, robust and feels like it'll give many years of service.
Nice touches include gold plated XLR pins and it comes with a really good mic holder.

As good as
Motherspot 20.05.2021
an SM 58 this mic. It's a Rode, they make quality stuff.....it's heavy...sturdy and, till now, sounds very good when i used it for a video comment. Guess it's no problem for singing as wel because that's what they are designed for...and it's cheaper than the SM 58. Good buy!

A
Great speech microphone
Aled23 08.08.2022
After numerous A-B testing against other well-known brands, I discovered that Rode's M1 is especially good for speech and voice-overs. I was flabbergasted that it was so great. You get a low noise-floor with this Rode and that's what they're good at. The M1 perhaps might not have the presence that some other vocal mics enjoy but it will depend on the register of your voice. Definitely worth a shot at this price point.

V
An excellent affordable Mic
Vincent803 18.12.2015
This dynamic mic from Rode is a bargain at the price. It is rugged and, as reliable as the Shure SM58. It is a solid mic with a good sound. Used as an alternative to a SM58 it works out fine.

Very pleased

I really like this mic. It is a great replacement for the SM58 and was a good £20 cheaper. I like the sound quality and it feels solid and very well put together. Well done RODE!

Awesome price/quality match
Anonymous 30.01.2016
Used it for singing and miking a cajon. It did a good job in both cases.

As I used it for relatively quieter shows, I can't tell how it would behave on a rock concert or something like that, but for shows in bars and smaller venues I know it's a good choice.

All in all if you are a working musician that plays mostly in bars and venues, you won't go wrong buying this mic, wheather you use it for your singing or miking an amp or drums.
