AK
As a snare drum mic
Alex Krvs 04.03.2021
I really couldn't find any reviews regarding this microphone used as a snare drum mic so at first I was pretty hesitant but then when I bought it and made my first recording I was really happy.
Since it's been just 2 days that I'm using this I will update my review later.
So I could really hear a lot of snare detail, attack and air. The sound of my snare was exactly as I hear it while playing it. I never muffle my snare drum and classic dynamic snare drum mics almost always muffle it. With this one my snare drum had its character recorded instead of the mics character, but this is also due to its small diaphragm since small diaphragm condenser microphones tend to be more realistic sounding.
The most amazing thing for me was the sound of my brushes.. I could listen to every little detail. Probably a big diaphragm condenser microphone might be more "brush" appropriate, but this is a really great upgrade from the classic dynamic microphones.
Now my snare was picked up without making this mic peak, but that was with a -20db pad setting.
This microphone also comes with a mic holder, but I am using the t.bone SSM 4 shock mount and apart that it holds the microphone really securely it also looks awesome.

JV
good budget mic
Jean-Claude Van Damme 21.03.2026
I've tried different budget SMCs, starting from the cheapest and working my way up the prices.

I have a bunch of more expensive mics to compare them against. I was looking for more affordable ones to expand my mic count without breaking the bank too hard.

The SE7 and SE8 are the ones I settled for. That is, the least expensive mics that don't sound like compromises.
